Awful experience. We had booked a 45 minute tour for myself, my daughter and my two grandsons. When we arrived at the airfield to check in on the date and time given, we were told that the weather would not allow for the 45min flight but we could have a 25 min flight instead for a refund of $30 per person ( $30 refund on $499 for a flight only half as long!) As we were boarding another customer started shouting hysterically that she wanted to sit in front and as we all sat there with this woman screaming, we became more and more nervous that she would lose her temper and attack the pilot once we were in flight. Needless to say we were petrified as we took off , we flew for approx 7 minutes over trees and the helicopter was being buffeted about by the wind and it was a rough uncomfortable ride. We then reached the canyon and spent about another 7 minutes over the canyon itself again swaying and being buffeted about by the wind, and soon were on the way back for another 7 minute trip over the trees! Thankfully the hysterical woman was silent throughout the flight but the trip I had planned as a surprise for my grandsons was an unmitigated disaster- we could not wait to get off the helicopter and leave the airfield. How Maverick could have had the audacity to take us up in that weather is just unforgivable - it was in no way a comfortable and enjoyable experience. I have flown in several helicopters around the world- none of which were anywhere near as costly as this flight ($499 for 10 minutes over the canyon) and undertaken in such entirely unsuitable weather. Total rip off. PS: additionally a sticker I bought in the shop was charged at $130 when it should have been $13!!

Located at the Grand Canyon Airport which is in Tusayan Maverick Helicopters is ideally situated for sightseeing tours of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon as it takes only perhaps 5 minutes from take off to be actually in the air over the canyon. The journey to the airport from Grand Canyon Village which is where the train from Williams brought us to tak es 15 to 20 minutes by taxi and cost around $30 each way. The cab firm also stipulated payment in cash. That may change as time goes on but at the moment it seems that for them cash is the only lingua franca. Anyway we were not aware of this until the day before our flight which is when passengers have to re confirm their bookings with the chopper company. Another possible problem that you may have to overcome is the fact that the cell phone network in the area of the canyon is very poor and we had to seek help from the staff at the rail terminal to make the necessary calls. I say calls because on our day the winds were very strong and so we also wanted to check if the flight would be going ahead. After getting to the Maverick helicopter terminal we found the staff to be excellent and after checking in and weighing in too we were looked after very well until departure. Our helicopter and another both returned from the tours that they were engaged on at that time and then after reports from their pilots as to the weather conditions for flying that day. The winds being rather strong and so it was decided that it was not wise to take the longer 45 minute flight that we had originally booked and we were given an option of a full refund or we could take the shorter 25 minute flight which we gladly accepted. I must say that although we missed out on the extra time and distance we still had a wonderful experience flying a mile up over the Colorado river and round the dragon in the hands of a very highly skilled pilot and in a lovely, comfortable modern helicopter. I think that whichever option suits your budget or your desire this is a great way to experience the magnificence of this wonderful place. Full marks to both the ground and air crew at Maverick.

I wasn’t sure about taking our scheduled flight tour due to the windy weather conditions but we decided to trust the Maverick pilot and we were so glad that we did. The views are just beautiful and the experience was once in a lifetime!

The Pilot, Alex, was wonderful. However, if you are seated in the rear seats you only see half of what's pointed out. Yet you pay the same full price. Only saw a very small piece of the Grand Canyon.

Totally changes your perspective of the scale of the canyon. This particular company was very professional, easy, and informative tour. 100% from start to finish. Would do again, but would do longer than 25 min (which we did) -- maybe more than a wow factor, as a good part of the flight is over trees to canyon, so saw a relatively quick cross-canyon ride and fly around dragon. Captain and ground crew excellent.

Excellent planning and service, Pilot Alex from Maverick is great. Personable and enjoyable adventures

Amazing 50 minutes helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. You definitely get the best views flying over it.

This is the best way to see the Grand Canyon! My husband and I have visited the South Rim a couple of times but actually taking a helicopter ride over the canyon was phenomenal! Starting with a fly over the Kaibab Forest and then the East Rim was fun. We got to see the snow-covered North Rim and fly over many rock formations that are barely visible from the rim. Our pilot and guide was Mark. He did a great job pointing out the sites and I loved the accompanying play list of music. The helicopter was comfortable and made it easy to see the sites. Highly recommend it!
