A day at Sea aboard Mundo Marino Catamaran in Valencia

No safety announcements. No references to when we could swim ,eat,drink etc. anchored out at sea so quite dangerous. Expected more.

Having experienced quite a few catamaran trips in my time I can say that this one was verging on awful to poor. The comms from start to finish was shocking. No welcome, no introductions. We had no idea what was happening. There was a hidden charge of €5pp (another staff member said €6pp so seems like they’re making it up) to access the nets at the front of the boat which we were unaware of (otherwise you were refined to sitting inside or on the edge). A cup of water was €2.50 (although one cup of drink was included). Taps in WC didn’t work. We motored for an hour in one direction to the middle of the choppy sea. Next thing we knew the crew had lowered the steps which I guess meant we could get off and swim. After 45mins in situ we motored back an hour in the same straight line back to the marina. No good byes or thanks or even eye contact. We got off. There was no vibe on the boat. About a quarter of all the passengers were sea sick. Some threw up all over the WC. Very unwelcoming. We felt like we were an inconvenience for being there. Would not recommend.

The best bits were that it wasn’t expensive, it was a beautiful sunny day and the music was good. We had a mixture of families, couples and groups of friends. Everyone behaved well, it wasn’t raucous by any means. You don’t travel very far from the port, maybe 2 miles from the Marina itself and you’re close to the shore as you can see the beach clearly. There is a bar on board, and after your single complimentary sangria (which was a couple of litre bottles of Don Simon sangria watered down with juice), water, or soft drink, you have to pay €3 for a small tin of beer. No explanation as to how the heads (onboard toilets) worked/flushed or how to use them which meant they were blocked and overflowing. There was no safety briefing prior to leaving port, no mention of life jackets, life rafts or emergency or even standard operating procedures and some of the safety equipment was in poor condition and appeared to be out of date. Interior deck was wet obviously, and slippery as a result, with no mats in the interior. You had to enter and exit the water for a swim by one small ladder, at the bow, or simply jump off the deck which led to chaos with people jumping from a height into areas where kids were swimming. There was no water safety briefing prior to the swimming session and the staff paid no attention to the people in the water. No idea how they kept track of the number of people in the water and the number of people who got back on board after swimming. There were two swim decks at the stern, neither of which were open or utilised. There were slip/trip hazards everywhere with rucksacks, bags and shoes left in gangways and passageways, causing dangerous hazards and several of the cable guard rails were either missing or had been replaced with rope. The food on offer was basic and pretty grim, the paella was cold rice with some nondescript meat which was tough and gristly and mostly on the bone. Most of it went in the bin. Dessert was a couple of bits of watermelon on a stick. All in all, you get what you pay for - a low budget experience which is fairly enjoyable.

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you want to be on a party boat, with the young crowd, a lot of drinking, and music, then this is probably for you. If you would prefer a chill day of sailing and getting into the zen zone, then certainly not.

Not the best trip, but for the cost not the worst. We literally left the marina sailed for about 15 mins then stopped still with the marina in sight. Swimming for approx. 30 mins. Then paella and salad and dessert on the boat. To be fair the food was good. But this isn’t a boat trip, it’s swimming with lunch.
