What to expect
Mercado San Miguel
The Mercado de San Miguel is Madrid’s most central covered market. After an overhaul in recent years, it is now a major draw for tourists and home to over 40 food and drink producers from all over Spain.
Plaza Mayor
Plaza Mayor is usually a hive of activity and has a long line of old shops around its edge. Plaza Mayor has been known to host markets, bullfights, soccer games and public Inquisition trials. It is surrounded by residential buildings and has 237 balconies facing the Plaza.
Calle de las Huertas
Calle de las Huertas is the main street in Madrid’s Barrio de las Letras or Literary Quarter. It has been home to some famous names in Spain’s Golden Age of literature and is also crammed full of bars and restaurants, making it a popular nightspot for all.
La Latina
On the site of a medieval Islamic fort, the lively barrio of La Latina is a maze of narrow lanes filled with tapas bars and cantinas.
Puerta del Sol
The Puerta del Sol is a public square in Madrid, one of the best known and busiest places in the city. This is the centre of the radial network of Spanish roads.
