Sadly- this museum is in desperate need of support to upkeep the buildings. Throughout the multiple building venues (indoor and outdoor) there is evidence of neglect in the form of peeling paint, leaking ceilings with buckets on the floor to catch the rain, burned out lightbulbs, and general lack of organized spaces for public viewing. There was no staff at the front desk and the lights were turned off when we arrived at 1145am. There was a sign that directed us to the next door alumni office for assistance. The staffer told us the museum only had one visitor the day prior. There is a great deal of valuable South Dakota history recorded in the holdings of this museum so it is sad to see it in such run down shape.

Love the work being done there. The exhibits are interesting so schedule time to slowly check them out.
