We had a super fun time. My husband SCUBA dives and brought his own mask/fins/snorkel. I wished I had at least brought my mask and snorkel as the ones provided didn't have a float valve and I'm used to having one so I got a couple salty mouthfuls. I was also completely shocked they had prescription masks available! I had never tried one before and it was super awesome getting to try it!
We had 2 guides and there were just the 2 of us on the trip so we had plenty of attention. They let us swim off and do our own thing a lot of the time while they went to find things deeper in the water to bring up to show us. We saw plenty of wildlife in the water. It was a cold and rainy day and the visibility was pretty good!
When I first got my full body in the water to start following our guide, my brain had a freak out and I started breathing heavy from the cold shock. I rolled over on my back to breathe without the snorkel and let my body get used to it for a minute. After that I was totally fine. You do notice that it's cold, but it's definitely not unbearable. I have Raynaud's and my hands have a hard time warming themselves, so before I put the gloves on I got my hands warmed up so there would be some heat and that seemed to work well for a while.
We were in the water for about 75 minutes and my body was DONE. But I definitely recommend doing it!

The weather was rainy and blowy, the water was a bit choppy, and read 47 degrees, and we had A BLAST!! I am an absolute baby when it comes to cold water. Anything below 80 and I don't go in. So, this was a huge stretch for me. But I had read the reviews of people swearing that they weren't cold, and I took the plunge. Best choice ever! The freezing cold water very gradually worked it's way into my wet suit, but at such a slow rate that it never really phased me. My body warmed the water in my legs up before it reached my waist, and so on. It was like magic! And once you're in the water, you don't notice the rain or the waves. This was the best place to be on a rainy September morning! Getting out and back in the van was the coldest part of the day, but the hot cocoa and warm showers warmed me right up!
A lot of the beautiful marine life we saw was similar to what you see in the tide pools on the Oregon coast--bright orange/purple sea stars, sea urchins, cucumbers, etc. But the coolest thing for me was snorkeling with (and touching!) the jelly fish! Because every square inch of you is covered, you don't have to shy away. So fun! I also loved that the wetsuits add some protection from the rocks. I often get scratched up when snorkeling, but not in Alaska!
The guides were fantastic, helpful, informative, patient--overall awesome. This was an absolute highlight of our Alaskan cruise!

Such an awesome, unique experience. Fred and Kirk were so knowledgeable, and we loved getting to snorkel in cold waters! The whole trip was very smooth, and we got back to our cruise ship with plenty of time to spare. If you’re a swimmer, this is a must!!!

We’ve been on many excursions over the years and this by far was our absolute favorite! Upon booking we were concerned about freezing in the water and being late for the cruise ship, neither of these were an issue. Tour operators were extremely professional and knowledgeable. The equipment was in great condition and functioned properly and we were not cold even though the water temp was 47 and it rained all day, we were never cold in the water. Highly recommend!

We had fun and surprised the water was totally not cold even I didn’t wear my gloves, it’s easier for me to take videos and some photos. We saw colorful starfish, sea urchins, jellyfish, crabs, sea cucumbers, and different kinds of fish. Thank you so much!

This was such a great time! Highlight of my Alaska cruise and we did some other pretty cool stuff. I know you're thinking "but it's Alaska this must be freezing!". It's really not. The wetsuit equipment the guides provide was outstanding and I wasn't uncomfortably cold while snorkling at all. The guides were experienced, knowledgeable, and very organized. Once in the water there were tons of colorful starfish, sea urchins, jellyfish, crabs, sea cucumbers, and different kinds of fish. The guides would grab different things and bring them to the surface and tell you all about them. Listening was optional...you could also just continue snorkling around looking at whatever interests you. Guides will also provide an optional weight belt if you want to do a little free diving. I dove down about 7-10ft. and saw a sea urchine the size of a basketball! Group size was ~10 people with 2 guides which was a good ratio.

What a great experience, we really enjoyed our snorkeling trip. I was regretting my choice when we got to Ketchikan and it was cold outside but the 7mm wetsuit really keeps you warm, I wasn’t cold even once during the trip. Both guides were fantastic and we got to see some cool stuff. I definitely recommend this trip if you’re looking for something unique and fun to do in Ketchikan.

What an amazing trip! The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable about the wildlife. We saw lots of things under the water and never got cold.
