This was a very I teresting and informative tour. Our guide did a great job. He told many inside stories and some very funny facts that added greatly to our experience.

Went yesterday to see the Orchid Exhibition and had a timed access ticket for 1pm. Upon entering the site at 11:30, viewed the then growing queue of people waiting to visit the exhibition but after being told by staff NOT to join the queue until 15 minutes before our allotted time we went to view inside Kew Palace - which unfortunately was closed (apparently doesn't open until 3rd April but no information on the site as to this effect). So come 12:30 we ventured back towards the exhibition area only to see the queue was now approx. 1/2 mile long. After joining the same it look us a further hour to gain entry into the actual glass house. Given that the exhibition had been running nearly a month at this point - surely somebody could see that their arrangements were not working. Two externally located staff members did apologise for the absolute chaos
After viewing the beautiful orchids we ventured into one of the café areas only to find more chaos - all so disappointing and mostly unnecessary. WHY give out time allocated tickets if you cannot achieve the goal

Overpriced and most of the attractions were closed during December. Also they kicked everyone out at 3pm before we could even see any Christmas lights. So if you're planning on going there in December you'll just end up seeing dead plants and get kicked out early.
On the plus side we did see some geese and at least the greenhouse areas were open. But not worth the price.
Oh and the cafe was expensive. They have a single piece of fruit (apple or banana) for £1.50. A gluten free muffin for 5 quid and various other atrociously priced snacks.
There was one good canteen there which had freshly made pizza for about a tenner. It was decent but not the best. If you want to eat there I recommend going to the larger canteen not the cafe.
In short, it was an "ok" day out but a rip off. I wouldn't bother going again.
