I've taken other tours of Asheville, but I definitely learned a lot on this one! Many authors have links to Asheville, beyond Wolfe and O'Henry (and I never knew the O'Henry story!). Sarah was a delightful and informative host, with lots of tales (some go beyond literary), to keep the tour interesting. This tour is a great way to get to know Asheville.

Be sure to confirm your meeting point. My email said S Pack Square when the meeting place was N Pack Square. I ended up walking blocks out of my way to find the group (fortunately the guide called me). Our guide was nice and informative, working from a printed guide and a few audio clips. Beyond Thomas Wolfe, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and O Henry, a lot of the referenced authors were people I hadn't heard of. But still it was informative, friendly, and a great way to see downtown Asheville. They also let us stop at Malaprop's bookstore to browse.

Really enjoyed walking the street of historic Asheville learning about all literary history and connections associated with this amazing city.

Jimmy was a great tour guide. He knows a great deal about Asheville locations that are of literary importance and had tons of background on books and authors he told the group about. If learning about Asheville authors or works of literature related to Asheville are things that interest you, or if you'd just like a good walk, you should take this tour.

As a 5th generation native of neighboring Henderson County, I felt confidence in my knowledge of local artists & writers. However, after this tour, I'm left with a long list of subjects for further research. I strongly suggest making this tour part of your Asheville itinerary. There's also plenty of information for "knowledgeable" locals like me! Remember to bring your notepad or something to write notes on!

James and Sarah have done a remarkable job putting together one of the most charming, informative and FUN tours you will take! I have lived in this area the vast majority of my life, and feel like I learned a TON about the rich literary history of this town. It will be quite apparent as you move through the tour that you are not just hearing regurgitated common knowledge from a simple Google search. These guys have done the leg work to craft a singular Asheville-centric experience that offers something special for long time residents or newcomers alike! One of my favorite parts of the tour was the careful respect that is paid to the authors and the stories alike. They often quote impactful passages that combine with the unique downtown atmosphere to create a snapshot that sticks with you and makes you want to learn more. They are friendly, quirky in a good way and all too eager to answer any questions you may have. I especially loved the hats. :) Do yourself a favor and "book" now. Lots of pun intended.
