Grinzane Cavour Castle

Built in the first half of the 13th century, the castle has undergone several architectural changes. The most recent renovations were carried out in 1961, to mark the centenary of Italian unification. The imposing redbrick building is based on a trapezoidal plan, with four sections arranged irregularly around the small main courtyard. It was extended in the 16th century with the addition of two picturesque round turrets; the coffered ceiling with 157 painted panels in the Hall of Masks dates back to the same period. Today the castle houses the "Cavour" Regional Enoteca, a restaurant and an Ethnographic museum of rural life. The latter features exhibits on a variety of themes: Cavourian relics, wines from Alba in the Roman world, 17th and 19th-century local kitchen settings, wine glasses, objects relating to Albas food and wine traditions, the workshops of a blacksmith and a cooper, an 18th-century distillery, farmyard implements, weights and measures, information about truffles.

A must-visit for anyone staying in Langhe. The castle itself is beautiful, and offers an extremely educational and informative experience for anyone who's interested in learning about the region's history, as well as past and present winemaking. We loved our visit and look forward to returning soon. We returned a few days later at night to take pictures of the castle which is lit up every night with the colors of the Italian flag, and it was beautiful to see at night.

Very nice castle and extensive museum with everything you want to know about wine. Also has a restaurant and enoteca if you’d like to try local specialities.

As soon as I set eyes on this spectacular medieval castle, I was awestruck by its magnificence; especially as was was surrounded by snow which only added to the fairytale atmosphere. I enjoyed exploring the interior museum and afterwards had a delicious meal and beer in the castle courtyard. Grinzane Cavour Castle was one of the highlights on my recent trip to Piemonte.

A stunning 11th century castle, built and expanded across the subsequent centuries, in a dominant position on the top of a hill, with a breathtaking 360° view on the surroundings, especially on the world famous vineyards of the Langhe, aligned in precise parallel lines like well combed hair, alternated with just as well kept fields cultivated with hazelnuts, another of the local essential crops of the region. Inside, the Piedmontese Regional Wine Shop, where one can find some among the finest wines of this area and, thus, of the world.

Excellent signage, easy to find. Beautiful setting. Expansive views. Modest entry price. Several floors with interesting displays and objects that are explained well in English as well as Italian. Some video. Nice little cafe we used and a fancy restaurant with a Michelin star that we did not visit. This was the best presented castle/ attraction that we visited in Piedmont. Highly recommend it ... as long as you can climb a lot of stairs.

Wonderful place with spectacular views of the Alps. Inside the castle there is the Regional Enoteca with an excellent selection of wines.

Castles always have something exciting about them and I never fail to go and visit them. This cannot be defined as a real castle as it lacks a specific history. On the other hand, the visit was very interesting but only because the guide who accompanied us was very nice and engaging. On site you can taste/purchase good wine at non-prohibitive prices.

Piccolo castello sede anche dell’enoteca regionale piemontese Cavour. Edificato nel XI secolo è appartenuto anche alla Famiglia del Conte Camillo Benso di Cavour. Merita davvero una visita. Noi lo consigliamo.
