Your Itinerary

Punta de Calaburras

Marine and coastal birds at Cabo Pino and Calaburras lighthouse (Calahonda marine protected area), especially abundant in winter and during the migration season.

Playa Guadalhorce

Visiting the Guadalhorce Estuary is compulsory since this site is one of the most attractive wetlands in Andalusia and undoubtedly one of the best bird watching sites in Spain (!). As expected, many waterfowl and waders await us. On the best days, experienced birdwatchers spot up to a hundred species in this small reserve.

Malaga

Our long circuit will take us to the Rio Grande, another interesting place with riparian forest.

Mirador de Juanar

We will then visit El Juanar, a 'white' limestone mountain, with beautiful views over the Costa del Sol and Africa. The timing should be good for some birds of prey. On hot days, the pine forest will protect us a little from the heat.

Parque Nacional Sierra De Las Nieves

Next, we move to a small Mediterranean reservoir and stream, which flows from the nearby Sierra de Las Nieves National Park, where a more impressive biodiversity awaits us.

My wife and I booked this birding tour and it was one of our favorite days on our two week trip. Florent picked us up from our hotel in Malaga (which we were grateful for and also not easy for him I imagine!) He was friendly, kind and knew not just about birds but the insects and the plants as well! We learned a ton and felt a lot more grounded in the landscapes we were in because of his expertise. He tailored the outing to me specifically and what birds I was interested in seeing and I was able to spot 30 new species on my life list! We definitely recommend this birding tour! Thank you Florent!

Florent was a great birding guide with a vast amount of scientific knowledge on the birds, flora, fauna, insects and ecosystems of the Andalucia region. He was punctual, pleasant and cheerful as he guided us through his home territory on our birding adventure. We would recommend him to anyone who is truly interested in exploring nature in Andalucia. Thank you Florent!!!

We had an absolutely perfect day with Florent. For starters, he picked us up at the train station making the trip possible for us. Once at the Fuentes de Piedra lagoon, he quickly got nesting flamingos in his scope, and enabled us to take fabulous pictures. He explained the ecology surrounding their food and their habitat. We also got to see a long of 38 birds we had never seen before, including some rare birds and ducks. Additionally, he had fascinating background on insects such as the life cycle of the blister beetle. Next he took us to El Torcal. Just a few of the highlights of what we saw thanks to his keen eye included an Ibex, a Timon lepidus lizard, a Melodious Warbler, a nightingale, and several fascinating plant species such as the Sawfly Orchid. Florent and his intern, Anne-Alice, were both a total delight - friendly, personable, knowledgeable and fun. I can't recommend this tour highly enough!

Florent navigated seamlessly mountain roads, three languages, my slightly apprehensive companions on their first guided birding tour to ensure that everyone had an excellent experience. He is a treasure trove of birds, insects, reptiles and plants. As a bonus he also explained cultural practices of cork oaks, olives, almonds and even goat cheese.

Had an amazing time with Florent. Got wonderful views of Griffon Vultures. Also good woodland birds especially the Crested Tit. Ended the day with a wonderful river walk with lots of waders. All in all a great day.

What an amazing day out!!! Florent was extremely pleasant and very knowledgeable, picked us up and took us to the most stunning places. Got to see more than we expected and took so many photo. Worth every penny for a full day out and hopefully will do again when we return.

We met early in the morning and start to birdwatch in a Mediterranean scrubland, a vegetation which is rich in passerines... Sardinian warblers were really abundant. Throughout the days, griffon vultures were flying in the sky in large numbers. Overall, we could see numerous European specialties such as Black Wheathear, Rock Bunting, Rock sparrows and Tekla larks. The most impressive part was witnessing a group of vultures feeding on the carcass of a dead pig.

Florent was a fantastic guide for 3 days. His knowledge about birds, dragonflies, bugs, biodiversity and all things ecology is deep and limitless. He had a fantastic itinerary planned and was very innovative and creative with the plan when the weather did not cooperate ( one day). We saw a lot of bird species ( my primary purpose) but along the course of my trip I learned so much more about odonata, geology, trees, history and the importance of biodiversity. This was a fantastic experience much more that I expected. I recommend Florent highly. He will cater the trip to what you want. I be back for certain.

Excellent full day trip from Ronda up into the mountains and remote nature reserve. Dedicated time from Florien with lots of local knowledge. How he managed to spot so many birds while driving, I don’t know! Managed to see many species we would never have seen if just on our own.
