Sorry to be the only negative review here but I wish someone had made these comments before my husband and I spent time on this levada walk. If you have even the most minor hip, knee or ankle issues you should steer clear of this walk. It’s 4+ hours on a treacherous trail of sharp rocks, potholes, mud and uncomfortably narrow stone paths. The path out is the same path as the path in. There are no areas to sit and rest along the way to the large waterfall. I wound up with new hip and knee injuries that I never experienced before.

Levada walks vary so take the one that fits for you. You can have easy ones. short one or ones that require good conditions. Best time of the day is morning. It can also be quite cool so have enough clothing with you

Lovely chap picked us up from hotel in mini bus. Told us lots about Madeira en route to levada walk. He then guided the walk with lots of info re flea and fauna. 10 miles of quite slow gradient with decent trainers on. Lovely trip

The hike was beautiful. The nature is amazing especially the destination in the end at the waterfall is located in a beautiful place surrounded by mountains. Our guide Sara was amazing and thaught us a lot about the nature you walk passed.

This is an excellent thrill seekers walk it wasn't what I was expecting at all. Surprisingly easy going and the scenery is amazing everything from the sheer drop down to the caves its a top walk in madeira I'd fully recommend. Also the guide was a genuine guy who made sure everyone is OK and he had a great sense of humour.

The agency mini bus picked me up from nearby my hotel. The driver was good, the guide was friendly and made sure we were all ok during our walk. The walk itself was beautiful, it took no longer than 2 hours each way, and in the midst of our walk we stopped for a picnic by the gorgeous waterfall. Waterproof footwear is a must and make sure to bring a flash light for the tunnels as they can be quite dark and flooded with water. Overall a pleasant experience, the views are fantastic and I would recommend and use Lido Tours services again in the future.

A truly beautiful hike in some of the most gorgeous landscapes and woods I have ever seen. The guide and driver were both very friendly and helpful! The group is a bit big (15persons) for the very narrow paths, and unfortunately it felt a little bit rushed, so if you like to go at a slower pace or take a lot of pictures along the way, maybe go for a private guided tour. Absolutely a great experience for the price though! Highly recommend visiting this area.

Having done several of the 'easy' walks with Lido tours we decided to try a walk with moderate difficulty. Our guide (Anita) is very knowledgeable regarding mountain walks in Madeira - she has been a mountain guide for 22 years. This walk with a moderate difficulty rating involved walking through a waterfall - it is not possible to pass it - you have to walk through the water pouring onto you from above. The walk is probably better suited to those who are experienced mountain walkers - I found it to be difficult but did complete the walk and enjoyed the natural environment and views along the way. If you are considering booking onto this walk, be sure to take waterproof clothing and walking/hiking boots as trainers/sports shoes are not suitable for the wet and slippery conditions underfoot. You will also need a change of clothing on your return to the starting point - the route down is the route up in reverse so you will negotiate the waterfall twice. There are also 4 unlit tunnels to pass through in both directions - you will need a torch or at least the torch on a mobile phone to help you on your way. This is a very different environment to sunny Funchal.
