Raul modified his tour to fit my requests so that we could see our ancestors actual path during the battle. Nice job.

I really can’t recommend Raul’s tour highly enough. My wife and I are both interested in military history. At school, I had done a project on the 43rd and 52nd Light foot Regiments, who along with the 95th Rifles made up the Light Division. They featured heavily in the Peninsula War. I had long known the name of Salamanca as a pivotal battle. Last year (2022) we visited the battlefield and the interpretation centre. I realised this wasn’t enough to understand the battle. Raul’s knowledge and expertise brought the whole battle alive. It really is extraordinary to be able to stand where the various commanders stood, to see what they would have been able to see, to understand the difficulties in communication and the scale and distance involved in the battle. From the initial skirmishes to the conclusion to the final conclusion this was an enlightening afternoon. Although I knew something of the era, it was truly a wonderful tour that broadened my knowledge and understanding.

Excellent tour of the battlefield led by the equally excellent Raul; top class tour guide who brought the events of 22 July 1812 to life.

One of our primary reasons for visiting Spain was to tour a Peninsular War battlefield. I was very excited to find Raul and El Primer Edecan, and even more excited with his prompt response to my email inquiry and scheduling of our tour. Mind you we traveled from Los Angeles, California to see this! Raul picked us up at our Salamanca hotel and provided a very thorough, very entertaining drive around the various spots related to the battle. He had pictures, maps, actual musket balls, and when he pulled out his telescope so we could see what the British officers would have seen he blew me away! Raul obviously knows his stuff - I could not stump him with any of my questions. The entire experience was amazing and a highlight of our trip. I cannot recommend this more highly. If you want to truly understand this battle, and its context in the Spanish War of Independence, this is the tour for you. P.S. he even knows all about the Sharpe's series of books and talks about that too!

(Solo tour) Raúl met me at my hotel and we headed off on a tour. A great storyteller Raúl helped describe all perspectives as the battle progressed and made me leave feeling grateful and knowledgeable from the experience. I cannot emphasise enough how great of a guide and experience this is. If you appreciate the Napoleonic wars or want to learn more about Salamanca’s history I recommend this tour!

Raul is an expert who placed the battle in context of the Peninsular War and the eventual abdication of Napoleon. He answered all of our many questions. Recommend for all interest levels from school to military historian to professional military.

My wife and I booked a private battlefield tour of Los Arapiles ( The battle of Salamanca ) on June 8th 2022 through the Viator on line booking platform We were conveniently picked up from our Salamanca hotel by Raul Bellido a Millitary Historian who was to be our guide for the morning. For direct contact see www.elprimeredecan.es or contact Raul at raul@elprimeredecan.es. (+34) 622 22 13 73 We found Raul to be an excellent guide with a thorough knowledge of both the Battle of Los Arapiles and the wider Peninsula War The morning was very well planned with a visit to all the key battlefield locations in order which helped to fully understand how the battle unfolded This was supplement by Raul’s own folder showing pictorial battle plans and participants and a mid morning stop at the excellent museum at Los Arapile Raul certainly brought the battle to life and with his expensive knowledge was able to answer any questions we asked. On a practice note to obtain the best understanding of the battle field you will climb to a number of battles vantage points a good pair of shoes or walking boots is helpful and cloths and to suite the weather The site is rural no shops so take any refreshment you need and there is a toilet at the Museum half way around We would certainly recommend Raul as a Military you guide.

Fabulous trip. Very knowledgeable courteous guide. There was only 4 of us some with limited mobility and he managed to drive to most places on the battlefield or as close as possible. The small museum was great and definitely re-enforced the things we had learnt! Would definitely recommend and do it again!

My wife and I came, expressly, from Barcelona to be with Raúl (we had received very good references about his work). On both visits, (Arapiles and Medina de Rioseco) after an introduction to the period of the War of Independence, he guided us by car to the key sites, from where we could visualize and understand the battles. Raúl's knowledge of both the terrain, the movement of troops, the uniforms and the experiences of ordinary soldiers and leaders is extraordinary. He is an expert on the period, it is clear that he has studied it in depth and that he is passionate about it. Furthermore, it explains in a simple and entertaining way complex situations that occur in the chaos of battle, and takes us to the event, providing us with the precise data that will make us remember and understand what happened. Apart from his skills as a guide, the treatment was always exquisite and he answered, in the best way, all our questions. For our part, we can only recommend your visits, since there are few more gratifying experiences than listening to Raúl talk about history and, especially, the War of Independence.
