Basilica de la Sagrada Familia
The BasÃlica de la Sagrada FamÃlia is undoubtedly the most famous building in Barcelona. It is a large unfinished Roman Catholic minor basilica designed by Spanish/Catalan architect Antoni Gaudà (1852–1926), his work on the building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.On 7 November 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the church and proclaimed it a minor basilica.
We will review its history and ongoing heritage during an amazing walk around it.
Casa Batllo
Designed by world known architect Antoni GaudÃ, Casa Batlló is a building in the center of Barcelona. Being built originally as a regular house it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudà and has been refurbished several times after that. GaudÃ's assistants Domènec Sugrañes i Gras, Josep Canaleta and Joan Rubió also contributed to the renovation project.
We will stop by for an outside look and photo session.
Casa Mila - La Pedrera
Casa Milà is popularly known as La Pedrera or "The stone quarry" due to its unconventional rough-hewn appearance. Commissioned in 1906 by Pere Milà , it was built between 1906 and 1912, it is a modernist building and it was the last private residence designed by architect Antoni GaudÃ. At the time, it was controversial because of its undulating stone facade and twisting iron balconies.
Here we will stop by for an outside look and photo session.
Parc de Montjuic
Located to the Southwest of the City Centre, Montjuïc is a broad shallow hill with a relatively flat top overlooking the harbour. The eastern side of the hill is almost a sheer cliff, giving it a commanding view over the city's harbour immediately below. The top of the hill (a height of 184.8 m) was the site of several fortifications, the latest of which (the Castle of Montjuïc) remains today. The views of the city from Montjuic are a must for a Barcelona visit.
Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic)
The Gothic Quarter is the historic center of Barcelona´s old city. It retains a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares. It also includes the remains of the city's Roman wall and several notable medieval landmarks.
Barcelona Cathedral
Here we will find the majestic Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia or simply Barcelona Cathedral, it is the Gothic cathedral and seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona. It was constructed from the thirteenth to fifteenth centuries.
We will do a good walk through all these world class attractions.
