Coimbra

Coimbra, the City of Students, offers centuries of culture, since its time as Aeminium, city of the Roman Empire. Once the capital of the kingdom of Portugal and a meeting point for diverse cultures, Coimbra stands out for its rich historical and architectural value, modern infrastructure and equipment to support arts and sports, green spaces and commercial spaces.

Admission Included

Mosteiro de Santa Clara-a-Velha

On the other side of the Mondego, we recommend visiting the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha and the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, built to replace the first, which until recently was buried by the mud of the Mondego.

Admission Not Included

University of Coimbra

Right in the city center, you can visit the imposing University of Coimbra, a center of knowledge par excellence and a World Heritage Site.

Admission Not Included

Aveiro

After the visit to Coimbra, we will start our journey towards Aveiro, where we will have lunch in one of the many typical restaurants, with the fresh and succulent fish so characteristic of this traditionally fishing city. We will then continue through its center and along the various canals that justify the nickname “Portuguese Venice”. In the oldest part, you can still see the original facades of the picturesque colorful houses of the old fishermen, as well as a set of Art Nouveau style pieces that are worth appreciating.

Ecomuseu Marinha da Troncalhada

We suggest a visit to the Ecomuseu Marinha da Troncalhada, where artisanal salt production methods are shown and the characteristic landscape, fauna and flora are explored, keeping alive the experiences and traditions linked to this centuries-old activity.

Admission Not Included

Costa Nova do Prado

When the time has come to leave, we will do so without first passing through Costa Nova, for a panoramic tour that will awaken your senses.

Walk along Paccadicos do Paiva was lovely - lots of work building this pathway. Nice day trip if craving green after touring Porto. The taxi/tour van lots is 300m from bottom finish and there is another restaurant/bar there. I didn’t give 5 stars because tour operator had our driver also drive another couple with similar but different tour and there was confusion on afternoon plans. We were there ~9:20 on Monday and practically had the walkway to ourselves except when met other hikers going opposite direction near the bottom.

Our guide was Paulo. From the very beginning of our trip Paulo was very kind and informative. He gave us a worldclass tour and took the time to answer all of our questions. My sister and I were lucky to have someone who knows the countryside well. He also had phenomenal food options for us to try. All in all I'd like to try a different part of the country and will be requesting him next time.

Paolo was amazing. Such a gentleman and he had a vast knowledge of the area. We learned so much from him. I loved these two cities. Wish there was more time to see them both. Make sure you do the gondola ride in aveiro to see more if the city.
