National Mall (monuments) Washington, DC
Walk through history as we stroll onto the South Lawn of the White House grounds and learn about its history, hear stories of Presidents who have lived there and talk about the buildings that surround the White House. Our next stop is the Washington Monument where we will learn about and see pictures during construction of the obelisk and the rules regarding other buildings compared to the Monument. We will then visit the WWII Memorial before walking down the Reflecting Pool on our way to the Lincoln Memorial. (My favorite!) See the mistakes made in the memorial and ‘easter eggs’ hidden in plain sight! Lastly, we will walk through the Vietnam Memorial to learn how the wall is organized and how it was meant to be viewed, including the symbolism that is embedded in the wall.
Ford's Theatre
Visit the theatre where President Lincoln was shot in April of 1865. In the basement of the theatre, you will see artifacts of the time, including the .44 Caliber single shot Derringer that John Wikes Booth used to shoot President Lincoln. Afterwards, we will sit in the theatre and look up at the box where President Lincoln sat. You will hear the story of the plot of the assassination, including all the conspirators who were involved. Afterwards, we will cross the street and enter the Peterson Boarding House and see the room and the bed where President Lincoln passed away.
The National Archives Museum
See the founding documents of the United States! In the Charters of Freedom rotunda you will see: The Declaration of Independence The Constitution The Bill of Rights
