Day Tour through Stowe, Vermont
This 7-hour tour begins with a trip to Waterbury and Stowe, where we will visit a number of popular local attractions. Treat your taste buds at the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory and Cold Hollow Cider Mill, then visit the historic Trapp Family Lodge — the same Von Trapp family that inspired The Sound of Music. Our Vermont tours visit only the most interesting locations, such as a scenic drive to the top of Smugglers’ Notch State Park. You will also have a chance to explore Stowe village.
* Ben & Jerry’s is closed on Sundays and Mondays. In its place, we will visit Emily’s Covered Bridge, and take a scenic ride through Stowe Hollow.

Itinerary

Stop At: Ben & Jerry’s, 1281 Waterbury-Stowe Rd Route 100, Waterbury Village Historic District, VT 05676, USA
Our first stop will be at the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury. There, you will take 30-minute tour which includes a short film about their history, followed by a guided walkthrough of the production facilities, ending with free samples of their latest flavor! After the factory tour, there will be time to explore the gift shop.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Cold Hollow Cider Mill, 3600 Waterbury-Stowe Rd, Waterbury Center, VT 05677, USA
Our next stop of the day will be the Cold Hollow Cider Mill, also in Waterbury Center. Cold Hollow is one of Vermont’s leading producers of apple cider, but they also carry a number of other Vermont-made products as well, such as maple syrup and other specialty items. The first thing you will notice when entering Cold Hollow Cider Mill is the amazing smell of fresh apples being transformed into cider. The aroma always reminds us of Autumn, but fortunately for us, Cold Hollow Cider Mill is open year ’round! Once inside, you can help yourself to free samples of their freshly made cider, plus sample locally made jams and preserves. And of course, there is plenty of food for sale as well. (You will not want to leave without trying a hot cider donut!)
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center, 700 Trapp Hill Rd, Stowe, VT 05672-5074
After Cold Hollow Cider Mill, we will drive to Stowe to visit the Trapp Family Lodge. The Trapp Family Lodge sits on 2,500 acres of land, with breathtaking scenic views of Vermont’s Green Mountains. The Von Trapp Family (from “The Sound of Music” fame) chose this location as their home because its scenery is reminiscent their native Austria. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a welcome sign that reads “The Trapp Family invites you to share a little of Austria, a lot of Vermont.”
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Smugglers Notch, Cambridge, VT 05464, USA
After leaving the Trapp Family Lodge, we will take a scenic drive through *Smugglers’ Notch State Park. This narrow pass through Vermont’s Green Mountains features a steep and winding road, with impressive views of 1,000 foot cliffs above. As its name suggests, Smugglers’ Notch was originally used to smuggle various goods in and out of the country. Nowadays this area attracts visitors for its scenic beauty alone.
* Smugglers’ Notch is closed in Winter. In its place, we will visit: Emily’s Covered Bridge, and a scenic ride through Stowe Hollow.
Duration: 40 minutes
Stop At: Stowe, Stowe, Vermont
Finally, our last visit of the day will be in downtown Stowe. With a population of just over 4,300 people, this village is home to many events throughout the Summer, including a hot air balloon festival and many different arts and crafts shows. Here you will find many local artisan shops featuring art, jewelry, clothing, gifts, and number of award-winning specialty foods. There is even a Ski and Snowboard Museum, of interest to those who enjoy downhill Winter sports.

Natalie was fantastic: engaging throughout sharing stories, facts, and some history. She clearly loves this beautiful state and her passion shows. The trip was perfectly paced. I would most definitely this tour to anyone.
The day was wonderful. Our amazing guide, Natalia, was so much fun. She really knows so much history of Vermont. She went out of her way to help me with my amateur photography fun. You can tell she really loves her state and loves to share about it. We had considered renting a car for our short stay, but I am so glad we chose this tour instead. She took us so many places that we would have not gotten to experience. Thank you Natalia. We would certainly tour with you again.
I highly recommend Natalia and Vermontology to everyone visiting Vermont!! I was traveling solo and easily joined the group. It was an incredible day. Natalia offered so much information and insight into Vermont, we received endless recommendations for the remainder of our trips, and just had a fantastic time. Natalia was very personable and fun to talk to. The Stowe tour itself is the perfect combination of activities. You're seeing a lot of things and places, but it's so well organized and varied that you're able to really enjoy each one without feeling overloaded. The fall foliage was beautiful! Come hungry!!
We had four wonderful tour days with Natalia and saw a beautiful area with its awesome changing colors. Our trip included Montpelier, Mad River and White River areas, Waterbury, Woodstock, Stowe and other charming small towns. Natalia’s friendly personality made our trip so much fun. My husband and I especially enjoyed the country scenery. We highly recommend Vermontology to all travelers.
My daughter found this gem of a tour to help me celebrate my birthday. Natalia of Vermontology was simply an awesome and amazing guide. Our group was small so we got very personal attention. We saw all the top sites, had enough time to explore and she’s extremely knowledgeable. She made this an amazing birthday celebration for me and I will never forget her and the tour. All my friends love my photos that I took. I would definitely recommend Vermontology to anyone looking for a wonderful tour.
Natalia knows her stuff! We were instant friends! For a treat tour give her a call to see the area in style. We enjoyed the Cidery, van Trapp Resort, Ben and Jerry’s, Stowe and Smuggler’s Notch. Highly recommended!
