Barbara was very knowledgeable and engaging. We learnt a lot about olive oil and the tastings were amazing.

It was a little bit under expectations for a couple of reasons: 1- the guide Barbara was late to come to the meeting point and she seemed quite young. I was envisioning a much older and wiser person acting as a guide. 2. Since I was the only person who showed up, I was taken into the basement-like tasting room alone, so it was a little bit awkward. 3. The market was shut because it was Labour day so we didn’t get to do that. 4. There were no pretty flowers in test tubes like the thumbnail photo, nor a proper breakfast. There’s just the bread you use to taste the olive oil with and you’re offered coffee with no non-dairy milks available (even though I asked them beforehand if there’d be vegan options). 5. The bread used for tasting was very artificial and crappy in quality. There were so many additives it could survive a year without going mouldy. When beautiful natural bread was available literally around the corner for a couple of cents, why they bought this horrible bread I’ll never know. 6. Finally, after tasting beautiful olive oils and selecting one to purchase, they didn’t have enough change for me to pay in cash :(

We spent a wonderful morning with Barbara learning about olives and the olive oil process, and tasting the varieties her family makes. Barbara was very personable and knowledgeable, and provided great local perspective.

Barbara was a great tour guide. This is her family's business so after we toured the market we went to their tasting room. I wouldn't call it breakfast. It was lots of olive oil tastings with bread. But no other food. Olive oil was delicious! Guide was friendly and knowledgeable. She worked hard to make sure we had a fun visit. We enjoyed learning about her family and life in Cordoba. A true local!

Similar to other reviews, go to olive oil store for more in-depth learning and tasting. Market closed and dry bread took away from tasting

There are several different olive oil tasting experiences in Cordoba, and I picked this one because the market tour and breakfast sounded like a bonus on top of the tasting. Unfortunately, it was not really up to my expectations. The market is very small compared to markets I’ve been to in other cities/countries, and there is not much to see. Only a handful of stalls were open, but even if every stall had been occupied, it would still have been a tiny market. Not much to tour. Our guide provided some local commentary as we walked through the streets to her tasting room, including a brief stop at a bakery where she bought a few rolls, which was interesting. Like the market, the tasting itself was disappointing. When we arrived at the tasting room, she explained that we were going to have a field worker’s breakfast, which meant Nescafé (instant coffee), and that the breakfast itself was going to consist of sopping up olive oil with the rolls purchased during the walk. She talked a bit about the olive oil production process, and then poured a small amount of oil onto our plates with instructions to sop it up with the bread. Personally, I’m a big fan of olive oil with bread. We eat bread and olive oil like this all the time at home. However, the bread interferes with your ability to fully taste the oil, beyond the strongest notes (peppery, etc.). So it wasn’t really an olive oil *tasting*. The breakfast was just a few tablespoons of olive oil and a single roll, plus some green table olives and a swallow of sherry at the very end. When tasted plain, the oils were nothing special, as well. At the end, we were still hungry because we didn’t eat *beforehand* because we expected something more substantial. The tour was very inexpensive so I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that the breakfast was so sparse. Later that afternoon, we walked past a olive oil specialty store elsewhere in Cordoba that offered a tasting and we decided do that to make up for the disappointment. I won’t name it here but it turned out to be excellent. If you are really interested in olive oil, skip this tour and breakfast, and do a store tasting instead.

Absolutely amazing tour! it offers a taste of Spain's finest olive oils, while providing an immersive experience of the gastronomy and culture of this wonderful country. Our tour guide Barbara was very friendly and entertaining, which made the experience 10x times better. You also have the chance to purchase some amazing olive oils at the end of the tour for really affordable prices. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about Spanish culture and has a passion for olive oil.

Our guide changed the start time to 30 minutes earlier than what we had booked. Didn’t ask if it was okay and made us feel silly for arriving late. Tour was not as informative as I would have liked. Beware that the breakfast is dipping bread in various olive oils and instant coffee.

Mara was engaging and informative. The olive oil was excellent and the “little grapes” at the end was tasty. We learned a lot and enjoyed meeting our fellow travelers.

Mara took us through a wonderful journey in Cordoba all cantered around her passion: olive oil! We learnt a lot about olive oil, as well as life in Andalusia and the importance of local produce to local people. We tried an array of different flavoured olive oils. The only downside: we could not take them all home!
