The theater was impressive. Our guide explained that this theater was built specifically to house the Oscar presentations. We saw all the behind the scene areas where Oscar presenters are located before taking this stage and where Oscar winners are present after receiving their awards. We were on center stage and took pictures galore. The history of the Academy was explained. We saw a video of how the Oscars are made. It is a beautiful and impressive building but our tour guide put the whole picture together in such a way it became a memorable experience. This is a must see!

The Dolby tour is a must. Absolutely loved the tour but the time went so fast. We even got to stand on the stage and see the winners walk. I would definitely recommend booking the tour. Denise Sydney Australia.

Absolutely fantastic tour!!!! Only short and sweet but it was perfect. Our tour guide Andy was great! You get to actually go on the stage and see what the audience look like. Honestly such a surreal experience! A must for all film and movie lovers! Only thing I would say that would make this better is to be able to hold a real Oscar at some point in the tour!

I was unsure what to expect, but this tour was very good. We were allowed to take pictures on stage at the Oscars. Very moving experience although the tour was short overall. I was able to take my students on a memorable trip- and they had more fun than I did. The staff was very friendly and the tour guide was well-informed. A must-see in Hollywood.

My most memorable experience was walking in the Dolby Theatre because it reminded me of watching America's Got Talent at home.

Very knowledgeable tour guide with lots of interesting facts and stories. The place was empty which was good as we got to go on the famous stage and sit in the front row seats as he explained how everything works on Oscars night.

The above title references the notable venue in question and a famous comedian, neither one of which needs an introduction but will get a brief one for sake of my review. The locale is on Hollywood Boulevard, down the street from the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and next to the TCU Chinese Theater (see separate reviews). Opened in 2001, it is a purpose-built auditorium with a number of notable features, including a large stage, ample electrical supply, and an orchestra pit easily accessible to camera, sound, and stage management. Although mostly well known as the home of the Academy Awards, it also has hosted “American Idol,” “America’s Got Talent,” and sees numerous and varied performing artists grace it’s stage every year. One of those artists was funnyman Chris Rock, who performed at the Dolby for several nights last November on his Ego Death World Tour. Active in the entertainment industry since the 1980’s, Mr. Rock’s performance here was also notable for returning to the same location where the Slap Heard Around the World occurred in March, 2022. I toured the facility in the afternoon, ordering a ticket online the week before. While the visit lasted only 30 minutes, I was the only person in that time slot and had my guide's undivided attention. It was a whirlwind experience and understandably Oscar-centric, covering the building in general but mostly the details of the annual award ceremony. I learned how they make the statues, the time and effort spent to ready the venue (and surrounding block) for the event, the seating arrangement for the show, and the various post-ceremony parties. I returned later that evening to see Mr. Rock perform to a sold-out auditorium, which started off with an expected and well-deserved standing ovation. In summary, this was a memorable visit to one of the world’s most recognizable entertainment venues. I was able to experience it on a didactic level (the tour) as well as in its intended role (the show). The tour was superb. My guide Andy was excellent, a deep wealth of information on the venue and an enthusiastic cinephile. Moreover, his presentation was a perfect mix of structure and spontaneity at a reasonable-for-LA cost of $25. While I will defer on reviewing at length Mr. Rock’s show (note: he’s funny), seeing a performance here was very user-friendly. With “only” 3,300 seats the staff did a remarkable job of choreographing everyone in-and-out quickly, while sequestering our cell phones for the duration. The ushers were friendly, polite, and gracious. A recommended visit.

Tours are timed entry so make sure you are there at least 15-20 minutes before tour time. The tour itself was pretty short (30-40 minutes) but the guide was very good and provided some great history and details of the the theatre. Was very cool getting to walk onto the stage and look out over the seats and balconies.

Wow. The tour is phenomenal. We got to go on the stage and see what it’s like from perspective of accepting an Oscar, so darn fun!!!! The perspective of seeing. The backstage, “green room” and the pathway of the stars from Hollywood blvd up the red carpet, and through and into the stage. Then the journey from seats to acceptance, behind the stage to the freight elevator, to the press room. Wonderful images and captures from proper award winners and nominees.

Great tour which lasted about 35-40 minutes. Was able to walk around the lobby, sit in the theater, go back stage and stand on stage. For anyone interested in the Academy Awards, this is a must. Very informative and small tour, there were about 10 people on our tour. If you are on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, definitely worth a tour here!
