What to expect
Amarante
Two impressive natural features will undoubtedly leave an impression on all visitors to Amarante: the great Serra do Marão rising above the city in a series of majestic landscapes, and the river Tâmega, the longest tributary of the Douro, whose journey begins in Galicia and which flows through the center of Amarante, adding additional color to the picturesque houses seated on its banks. We cannot simply pass through this beautiful land without making a small stop, stretch our legs, taste one of the most daring delicacies enjoying the crystal clear river and its bridge which links the two banks in the same location as the crude bridge built by S.Gonçalo to permit the passage of pilgrims, who wanted to reach the bridge as well as the Convent, all of them dating back to the 18th century. To reach this destination will take us approximately 50 minutes.
Provesende
Along the way we will contemplate magnificent landscapes where the mountains, the crops and the beautiful villages Douro´s Region offers us are breathtaking. Before we reach the next destination we will do a brief visit to one of the most picturesque villages in the region - Provesende. Provesende is a charming small village located in the lovely Sabrosa department in the fertile region where the famous Port Wine is produced. This is a region of great natural beauty, located on a small plateau, facing the beautiful Pinhão river, with a strong rural ambiance that has remained throughout the centuries, specially since the creation of the Douro wine demarked region in the 18th century.
Casal de Loivos
Our next stop its going to be Casal de Loivos Viewpoint where we will find a spectacular panoramic view over the town of Pinhão and the Douro River that we are going to enjoy, as well as try typical Portuguese dishes accompanied by regional wine. From the viewpoint, one can observe the Douro River, which curves in front of Pinhão and meanders along the slopes full of terraced vineyards, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Douro. We could also see several Douro Quintas such as Quinta das Carvalhas on the other side of the river with Casa Redonda on top of the hill in front, Quinta do Bomfim, Quinta da Roêda, Quinta da Foz, and Quinta de la Rosa, among others. To reach this destination will take us approximately 30 minutes.
The Douro Valley
After this magnificent view from the most beautiful panoramic viewpoint, it’s time to lunch on a local restaurant suggested and previously booked by us. We will taste the wonderful delicacies of the region. To reach this destination will take us approximately 30 minutes.
Pinhao
After lunch we head towards the magnificent Pinhão Railway Station, where the 19th-century tiles stand out with depictions of local culture. With the Douro River and the Pinhão River intersecting the lovely riverbank region and the station where the ancient train takes us back in time, Pinho resembles a scenario from an old movie. It all links to form a stunning environment that was even recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. To reach this destination will take us approximately 15 minutes.
Peso Da Regua

Once complete the perfect curves road it’s time to visit one of the best wineries in Douro for a tour and special wine tasting. After clearing the palate we will go through the city of Peso da Régua, located on the banks of the River Douro, was crucial to the production and distribution of Port wine since it was from here that the barrels were transported in the special rabelos boats to Vila Nova de Gaia, where the wine was allowed to age in the regional wineries. To reach this destination will take us approximately 30 minutes.
Mesao Frio
Mesão Frio, a tiny village in the Douro wine region, has long been associated with winemaking. The Solar da Rede, which has been converted into a Pousada, is one of the largest estates and manor homes in the area. The vines grow in terraces on the banks of the river, adding to the area's tremendous beauty. To appreciate this beauty even more we’ll go to a Viewpoint and afterwards head home full-hearted.
