The Magic Dolphin Eco tour was amazing. The catamaran allowed for up close and personal encounters with a pod of bottle-nose dolphins which was incredible. Great piloting from the captain, an incredible opportunity to see the dolphins with safe and environmentally friendly observation techniques. Also for an added bonus that we would definitely recommend being prepared for is a fantastic opportunity to swim in the sea in a lovely bay with safety by the boat. Leave all fears of entering the water in Funchal and get the shorts or bikinis on - it’s worth it! Big shout out to the sailers and captain for their great guidance! Enjoy!

There are two strong negatives against going out on the Magic Dolphin. First, the trip is much more a sight-seeing cruise than a whale-watching trip. We only spent about 30 minutes of the approximately 2.5-hour trip looking for marine mammals, and only spent about 10 minutes observing marine mammals (dolphins) once we found them. The crew made no effort at all to try to find any other marine mammals after the initial encounter, and instead took a very slow steam towards some nearby sea cliffs for a 10-minute opportunity for people to swim. Then the boat slowly motored back to Funchal harbor. I’ve done many whale-watching trips over the last few decades and Magic Dolphin spent the least time looking for marine mammals than any other company I’ve ever gone out with. The second major problem is they put way too many people on the boat. They don’t exceed safe capacity, but there are so many people that it’s impossible to see the marine mammals unless you luck out and be on the side of the boat on which the mammals happen to be. Everyone rushes to the side of the boat with the animals, making it impossible to see the animals if you aren’t part of the first rush to that particular side. Overall, I strongly recommend that you go with a smaller boat with fewer people and one that will devote the majority of its at-sea time to looking for marine mammals if that’s the experience that you really want to have.

My husband has very limited mobility due to dementia. The crew were absolutely fantastic. He was able to leave his mobility scooter by the gangway and the crew helped him on to the boat. They were so patient and I can't praise them enough. We both had a wonderful time and got to see dolphins although unfortunately he can't remember now but I have lovely memories of a wonderful trip.

We had a great time seeing dolphins, sharks and getting to swim! This was such a cool experience and they did a great job at explaining everything. My friend and I were the only people to get in the water since it was a bit chilly, but they let us take our time and everyone was so nice.

Wow! This was an amazing trip. We were fortunate enough to see a large number of Pilot whales, some Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and a Bottlenose Dolphin. The crew was extremely sympathetic to the animals and very knowledgeable about them and we enjoyed the additional information imparted towards the end of the trip. I would really recommend this trip. Don’t visit aquariums!

Had a brilliant trip yesterday with The Magic Dolphin Eco catamaran. The crew were brilliant and informative. We had great sightings of bottle nosed dolphins! Vessel well maintained and clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

The trip was very good, we have seen a lot of dolphins, the boat goes really good and comfy,it has 2 bars, 2 toilets on board, special thanks for fun and professional crew,we recomend 100%

We had a fantastic trip. We love how the company respect the dolphins and their environment. We saw a big group of dolphins, we took some great videos and pictures. The staff were fantastic and told us lots about the dolphins we had seen. They were respectful to the dolphins, only staying tor a certain time and staying distant from the dolphin, allowing them to come to us. We were so happy with the trip. Thank you so much!

We booked this trip through our hotel. We went in the smaller catamaran so only about 20 people which made for a more personal experience. The trip lasted about 3 hours. The staff were great, friendly and very knowledgeable- explaining everything and telling us all about the animals we saw. We were visited by dolphins, saw a whale from a distance and also saw a sea turtle which was amazing. They sailed along the coastline which gave us the opportunity to see things you wouldn’t normally see. There was a swimming opportunity but we hadn’t brought our swimmers and it wasn’t the best day but would love to swim in the summer. Highly recommend these trips.
