Chocolate Museum

Like a ship made of glass and metal, the chocolate museum is located in the Rheinau harbour, directly in front of the old town, near the Cologne Cathedral. In medieval times in Cologne, the anchor and terminal were located here by the Rhine boatmen. Today the old swing bridge has been renovated to the new designed harbour quarter of the "Rheinauhafen". The tour of the nine exhibition areas is a fantastic and unforgettable journey through the 4000 square metre of the culture and history of chocolate, starting at the old American cultures such as the Maya and the Aztecs, through the Baroque age and the industrialization up to the individual refinement of the noble chocolate of today.

I really enjoyed my visit to the chocolate museum. It was quite busy, as it was just before Easter. I would've been almost entirely satisfied by drooling over all the types of chocolate in the gift shop. The tour was interesting and educational. Be sure to give yourself enough time to see all the displays.

This museum is reasonably priced and gives an interesting insight into the general production of chocolate as well as the local insight. Watching the machinery produce the chocolate as well as taste some of the chocolates was great. The huge chocolate fountain will have all chocoholics drooling before a trip to the cafe satisfies that need with chocolate cakes or thick hot chocolate looking over the river.(alcohol added for those in need). A must see if you visit this city.

Very interesting information about where chocolate is grown and the process of producing it. And the process Lyndt uses to make there’s and the free samples.

The museum was very crowded with too many people. The history of chocolate exhibits were boring and lacked any creativity. Most of it was reading the history. I can read history on line. I was really hoping for something more.

We had a great time at this museum, my kids (4 and 8) absolutely loved it! The staff are so friendly and give out lots of chocolate! It was also really informative and interactive. Kept my kids occupied for a couple of hours. We thought we would eat at the chocolate cafe/ restaurant that is inside the museum but it’s not child friendly at all. This was the one and only downside.

A fun and very informative tour. Highly recommend making your own chocolate bar midway (takes about 45mins). If not they have plenty of options to also buy as gifts.

Was ok. I expected a more enlightening información or even something where to use our senses. Not different of any other museum but with less information to learn. Pretty much focus on Lindt sales.

Was an interesting insight into the process and production of chocolate and the cafe was very good for refreshments afterwards
