Pere-Lachaise Cemetery

(Pass by)

The Chairfather tours of Père Lachaise are an immersive experience encompassing theatrical representations and citations, music clips, sound effects, gags and other surprises. Hearing the tales of 50 personalities told in this entertaining way, you'll agree the passed have never been more alive!  On Tour 1, we will cover one third of the 44 hectares of this immense park. We will visit the final resting places of luminaries Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, Alice B Toklas, Ettore Bugatti, Amadeo Modigliani, Edith Piaf, Henri Salvador, Beaumarchais, Anna de Noailles, the Carton family, Quintin Craufurd, Victor Noir, Sarah Bernhardt, Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Isadora Duncan, Stéphane Grappelli and a Dragon. In life, many of our hosts were connected to each other in surprising ways. This first tour explores political intrigue, forbidden love, and, of course, sex.  Tour 2 will see Camille Corot, Jean de La Fontaine, Molière, Antoine Parmentier, Joseph Léopold Sigisbert Hugo, Jean Anthelme Brillat de Savarin, the Tissandier family, Elizaveta Démidoff-Strogonoff, Georges Rodenbach, Ferdinand de Lesseps, Jim Morrison, Héloïse and Abélard, Camille Pissarro, Michel Petrucciani, Frédéric Chopin, Claude Chabrol, Marcel Marceau, and Théodore Géricault. We will explore separation: diverging from tradition, rifts in the relationships of fathers and sons, slicing through the sky, cutting through continents, lovers forcibly pulled apart, breakthrough bold musical compositions and silence as a means of communication.  The main theme of Tour 3 is builders, meeting four men who made Paris what it is today. We will pay respects to Jacques-Louis David, Félix Faure, Georges Eugène Haussmann, Gioachino Rossini, Louis Visconti, Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, Jean-Charles Adolphe Alphand, Georges Seurat, Georges Méliès, Joseph Croce-Spinelli and Théodore Sivel, Georges Bizet, Gustave Caillebotte, Honoré de Balzac, Eugène Delacroix, Fulgence Bienvenüe, Marcel Proust, Allan Kardec and some guy called Félix de Beaujour.  No other audio tour visits as many sites inside Père Lachaise. Your guide is a local author who used to work a couple blocks from the cemetery and would come for lunch all the time. Often he would have to return three times to try to find one site without success. The maps and the apps simply weren't accurate enough. So, he decided to make these tours to get people on track. At least half of the places we will visit you would not be able to find without a guide. The Chairfather tours will bring you in an enjoyable manner to precisely the sites most tourists are looking for.  This is a GPS-triggered audio tour from VoiceMap, which has the advantage of allowing your eyes free reign to look around you and admire the sites. You can put your phone in your pocket, look up, and let your imagination wander.

Highly recommend this audio tour! This was much better than a group tour which we couldn’t even book in English at the last minute anyway.. This was an even better solution & cheaper too. We loved doing the trip on our terms when it suited us best. Easy to use app & very entertaining audio. The cemetery wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without the audio tour. It was a cold & rainy day &we still enjoyed ourselves.

I enjoyed the tours. I was able to complete two and a half of the three before needing to leave Paris. The app directs you to some very unique and interesting “hosts” and some of the stories are very engaging. The walking was a fair amount of exercise, which I also considered a plus in a very peaceful and respectful setting. Not infrequently, one gets off the desired path the app specifies but it is fairly easy to course correct and get back on the tour. The app performed well. All-in-all, a very inexpensive and useful way to make a tour of the cemetery.

Tons of fun facts. I laughed a lot at the stories and the impressions. No way I could have found the tombs without the guide.

We enjoyed our walking tour of Pere LaChaise, and found the anecdotes & historical information very interesting. The author chooses many of the better known personalities (plus a couple we hadn't heard of), and provides stories & funny details about their lives... At one point he even kept us in suspense...and then spooked us! :) Sometimes the route is a little tricky to follow among the gravestones, but we were able to simply rewind the audio & follow the directions precisely. Was a fun diversion on a summer afternoon, and the tour was neither too long nor too short. Descriptions & anecdotes were succinct & entertaining.

Weggegooid geld.
