We travelled 1hour 20 minuets for this and no one is here, we asked the guy at the fruit farm and he said he doesn’t know any horse riding places here , so we’re £70 down from that plus the fuel which is a good £45 , ruined our holiday as we booked this for our 2 nd year anniversary for something nice to do for it , turned out to of ruined our day …

I have ridden at Caldera del Rey many times over the years and always had an amazing time. However, after a 4 year break, I have returned with my partner to have probably the worst riding experience ever. We were greeted rudely by a blonde woman and proceeded to stand for 20 minutes while she was doing her own thing and prepping the horses. She barked at us to get hats (She failed to mention where from, would not have known had I not been before). She told us to get on and took us out to the plantation. She spent the whole time chatting to her friend while we rode in front, not even paying enough attention to us to tell us whether we are to go left or right- we had to guess. Yelled at my partner several times, despite being told many times that he is a beginner and has only ridden a few times. There was absolutely no need to yell, she could have explained calmly what we are to do, where she wants us to go etc. Am very glad her horrid treatment didn't put him off riding- it surely would have put me off if it happened on one of my first ever rides. We returned after about 40min (not a scheduled hour), tied up the horses and stood there as she relayed our trip to her pals in Spanish, ignoring us entirely. We could have left without paying, as she didn't really seem to care at all. The few times she spoke to us, she was condescending and very, very mean. All in all, it was a drastic difference from the previous experiences we've had at Caldera del Rey. We have ridden with the owner(Karen, if I remember correctly) and some of the other girls, and had an amazing time. I really am not one to leave negative reviews, however this experience has left me upset and never wanting to return here.

On arrival myself and my 7 family members wondered in with no welcome, eventually (after about 20 mins) a lady came over, told us where the riding hats were and to find one that fits, we had no help with this. Luckily myself and my mother in law are experienced riders so we had to fit the children with whatever hats we could find, all of which were dirty and smelly. Considering we had booked this ride 4 months previous, it was very unorganised, we were not shown to our horses, we had to do our own girths and stirrups (the children had no idea so I had to go around and do them myself!). Whilst on the ride one of the children’s ponies bucked and unseated him, luckily he landed on the ponies neck and managed to shuffle back into the saddle, the bucking pony caught one of the other children on the knee leaving a nasty bruise. (obviously all horses have a mind of their own but we had no warning of this pony being the way she was.) On the way back the horse I was riding went to the toilet, leaving me a few yards behind. Being experienced I had a little trot to catch back up to save them stopping and waiting, only to be shouted at and spoken to like muck by the owner! When I booked the ride I was told that the experienced riders may have a canter, but on the ride we weren’t even offered the option - if you want a faster ride go elsewhere! All in all I was very disappointed, especially for the €240 we paid.
