The Arch of Constantine is a triumphal arch with three arches (with a central passage flanked by two smaller side passages), located in Rome, a short distance from the Colosseum. The Arch can be considered as a real official Roman sculpture museum, extraordinary for its richness and importance.

Colosseum
The Colosseum is the most famous monument in the world and a symbol of the greatness of Rome. Its construction began in 70 AD. and ended in 80 AD. under the empire of Titus, son of Vespasian.
The Colosseum is made up of four overlapping architectural orders; the first three are made up of eighty arches framed by semi-columns, the fourth is divided into panels interspersed with windows. In the last order, masonry and wooden supports were inserted to support an immense tarpaulin (velarium) which served to shelter spectators from the sun and rain.
189 meters long, 156 meters wide, for a height of over 48 metres, the Colosseum extends over an area of 24,000 m2 and could accommodate around 50 thousand spectators who could sit in the cavea, made up of brick steps covered in marble. The arena, which measured 76 by 46 metres, was made of a large wooden board covered with sand.

<p>Thank goodness for skip the line tickets! It was very crowded and we were there at the very end of the season. Got to see it all but it's a hard day of sightseeing.</p>
