Our guide was very knowledgeable and the site is extremely interesting. There is lots to see and learn about the early days of the Roman civilization in the area. History buffs will love this site.

History lovers that we are, we were not going to visit Portugal without seeing the Roman ruins in Conimbriga. Fortunately we had Eva J as out guide: her wealth of knowledge, flawless command of English, love of what she is doing, great attitude and pleasant demeanor helped bring this dead place alive for us. We could imagine ourselves living in the structures she described and explained to us so well. Thank you, Eva!

Worth the visit if you are in the area. The entry fee was 8 euros and it includes the ruins and the museum. It was a very interesting visit.

The ruins have been partially excavated and what there is to see is interesting but not very well preserved, the mosaics are nice and the garden of the house with the fountains is really nice, the fountains still work if you put in a 50 cent coin in the meter. What I didn’t care for was the paving they have done over the ruins and in the gymnasium area, it really ruins the whole effect. The museum is very small, you can see it in about 20 minutes, but it is worth it as you are already there and there is no extra charge. Getting there by public transportation is not easy as they only have a few buses a day. You can hire a taxi but I never checked on the price. We took a semi private tour out of Coimbra for 60 euros per person that included a visit to another interactive museum and the aqueduct nearby. The entire tour took about four hours from start to finish.

So interesting to view what life was like in this town based on the ruins. And there are digs currently happening so you get to watch archaeological work in real time. Not much shade but the museum and snack bar are indoors. Worth the visit!

Amazing and definitely worth the trip! These ruins are in perfect condition. The mosaics are shockingly in great shape. The museum is interesting it’s really a shame that’s not better publicized because it’s worth a detour or a direct trip.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip wonderful. She was patient answering all our questions. We never felt hurried. We loved the whole experience. We highly recommend this outing.

if you’ve never been to the ruins of a Roman city, Conimbriga might be something really interesting. If you’ve seen places like Ostia outside of Rome, Itálica outside of Sevilla, or Villa Romana Casale in Sicily, then this site is nothing special. There are sites like it all over the Iberian peninsula. There are some really nice artifacts in the museum. I found the museum more interesting than walking the grounds. It does offer a reduced price for those over 65. We spent less than an hour at the site.

Fascinating! A must stop on your way to Coimbra. We thought this was such an interesting site - the history is remarkable. I would have loved more information provided on what we were seeing, but it is all very accessible, interesting, and a great way to spend a couple hours.

Much larger the expected and very interesting pitstop. Well worth the detour if you're in the area.
