Tomar was a land given as a fief to the Templars. It was especially important in the 15th century when it was a center for Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator, the Grand Master of the Order of Christ, the organization that succeeded the Templars in Portugal. In here we can visit the Church of Santa Maria do Olival, the headquarters of the Knights Templar and a pantheon of all Grand Masters.

“In this case”, the tour itself was very interesting, and if you’re a history buff, then this is the tour for you. “In this case” our guide was very informative and probably knows the most about the Knights Templar in Portugal.

Excellent guide really nice comfortable van. Great day. Our visit to the Village of Tomar, the stronghold of the Portuguese Order of the Knights Templar, proved to be a fascinating and educational experience. The Romans built the original structure, which was later granted to the Order for their support of the King in the 1100s. Sonar has detected tunnels beneath the structure that are believed to have brought water from the River Tagus to the interior. We also visited the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that housed pilgrims on the Camino Real until the 1980s. The Knights also resided at the Convent. We learned about the Crusades in medieval Europe and Portugal's exploration. Finally, we visited the Igreja de Santa Maria dos Olivais, a church built by the Knights that continues to serve the community for weddings and baptisms.

Leo's knowledge of history was fantastic and was able to clearly explain (in excellent English) the complicated history of Portugal around the time of the Knight's Templar. The trip was very well paced and provided exceptional background and historical sites.

Our tour guide, Bruno led an insightful and engaging tour of the Jeronimos Monastery. His ability to connect historical facts to make them relevant and personable added a whole new dimension to our sightseeing experience. His commitment to meeting the diverse interests of the group members was evident throughout the tour and ensured that everyone got the most out of the tour. It' was wonderful to have a guide who not only educates but also creates memorable experiences for his guests. We enjoyed the tour of the monastery so much that we booked his full day tour to Sintra the next day. Once again- an amazing tour. If you are in Lisbon, I highly recommend booking a tour with Bruno.

The boat ride to the Almoural castle was fun; the castle was ancient and full of history; the tour in Tomar was fascinating, hearing the tales of what happened there over the centuries and being in the actual ancient buildings where the events happened

Hugo was a great tour guide. He was very informative about the farming on the way to Tomar. He also brought us to a great local restaurant in Tomar for lunch . Great tour ! Don't miss it!

Tour didn't go, not even informed about it, after 30 minutes waiting I called them, they say tour is not going, such awful customer service. Problem with van. They couldn't find a vehicle to transport 3 people in the whole damn world. Just BS! I get the feeling that either three customers weren't worth the hassel or they needed the van for another bigger group. But the total lack of communication was the worst.

The wonderful stories Francisco, our guide, told our group. He was very knowledgeable on Templar history. A great tour, would do it again.
