The “Vieira” ceramic factory (closed on weekends) opened in 1862 and producing already for 5 generations, the traditional handmade blue and white ceramic of the Azores.
Lagoa do Fogo
Going up the mountain, a mandatory stop at 975m Pico da Barrosa, admiring the second largest lake in S Miguel located 575m above sea level, followed by a second stop nearly 200m down, at the viewpoint to see from a different angle the Fire Lake as well as a fantastic view from the both coasts of S Miguel Island.
Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre

Ribeira Grande, the second largest city from S Miguel Island. It's historical center, the city hall and teh narrow streets as well as the river course that gives the name to the city. Here we profit from an Ocean view at Palheiro belvedere and visit the liquor factory Mulher do Capote, with tasting of the internationally well known Passionfruit Liquor. This Family owned Company produces many fruit liquors, brandies and cream liquors since 1936, and it’s the largest producer in the Azores.
