On the way to the top of the crater, one stop at Pico do Carvão to enjoy a breathtaking view of S Miguel Island and both North and South at the same time.

Vista do Rei Miradouro

At VISTA do REI where you’ll have the opportunity to admire one of the most well-known panoramic post cards from the Azores Islands, the above view of Sete Cidades Green and Blue Lakes.

Caldeira das Sete Cidades

Descending to the village, stop at Cerrado das Freiras with another breathtaking view of the crater lake. A brief stop at the bridge between the lakes before arriving in the Village center located in the center of a massive volcanic crater, Time for a coffee and walk on the village center.

Miradouro da Ponta do Escalvado

Three of us were led by. Mario Rosa of Idílico Azores Inspire of foggy conditions, Mario is an excellent guide. With passion he guided us through the history of the region., The floraand fauna and economics of the area. Mario also shared historical and cultural history making the place come alive. We enjoyed our private tour with Mario. He met us at the port when our cruise ship arrived, and I was whisked away from the crowds into the luxury car. Mario was very knowledgeable in his island's history and the geography. Our tour through the Sete Cidades was wonderful, as we were in and out of the clouds/mist/fog that made the experience really feel authentic to what I would expect in the Azores. We ended the tour at the port after having a wonderful time walking and enjoying the town Sete Citades.

Mario made our cloudy day bright with so much information & history about the island he loves, including the geological history. The stops & viewpoints were spectacular. Our photos of the Sete Cidades 2 lakes are so beautiful surrounded by layers of various greens and a few late blooming hydrangeas. Mario while professional and personable was able to answer our many questions with layers of details.

Mario was the best! The information he gave us about everything, the stops for pictures, the recommendations, all top notch. Could not have asked for a better guide around the island. Although it was a somewhat foggy day, the views were still incredible, the pictures amazing, and the island is absolutely breathtaking. We cannot wait to go back. Book your tour with them!!! You will not regret it. Absolutely amazing time, spectacular island.

Our tour guide, Tiego, was fantastic! He was waiting for us when we got off the ship. He was from the area and knew the area well. His English was on point, so it was very easy to communicate and ask questions. The tour was a great way to see the beautiful island. 10/10 recommend!

Although our day was pretty much fogged in, we continued with the tour and we learned so much from our driver, Tiago. We visited a small pineapple farm that was interesting and educational. Some views lower on the island were stunning and the history of this island is worth the tour…sun, rain or fog!

Mario at IdilicAzores was wonderful to work with in scheduling my private tour starting from the cruise port. Tiago was my fantastic driver/guide. I peppered him with many questions during our tour and he patiently answered all my questions. He explained about the various plants and trees that we saw along the way (because I was interested in that topic). He also provided relevant facts and background about the different sites we visited. Tiago provided an introduction to Sao Miguel Island that exceeded my expectations. When my tour was over, I was wishing for another day in port to visit the Furnas area with Tiago. Maybe on my next Transatlantic cruise!
