Your Itinerary

Passeig de Gracia

(Pass by)

Start this tour directly from your hotel or apartment in Barcelona city. We come to pick you up, so please be sure to let us know exactly where you are staying. Enjoy an overview of Barcelona city along the route, pass by Catalunya Square, Barcelona Cathedral, Passeig de Gracia and the Gaudi Houses, such as the Batllo and the Pedrera, and many other highlights.

Montserrat

Get on the road and head to the mystic mountain of Montserrat. This natural park, with its very peculiar peaks, protects the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For almost 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has lived in these mountains located 60 km away from Barcelona. On the way, listen to some interesting stories about Catalonia and its bounding to the holy mountain, scene of pilgrims since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will share important information to understand the heritage you will discover during the tour.

Montana de Montserrat

The Rocky Massif of Montserrat has been declared as Natural Park in 1987, and characterised by the rounded shape of its peaks. This incredible 4000-foot wonder is easily recognizable by its ''serrated'' top from which it got his name. Once you reach the monastery, you have plenty of options and your guide will always adjust to your interests. We invite you to take an easy walk of around 30 min to enjoy one of the most astonishing views of the natural park, but if you wish you can also decide to enjoy other activities that the mountain offers.

Abadia de Montserrat

Visit the Basilica of Montserrat, house of the serene image of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, a polychrome Romanesque carving dating from the 12th century. The legend says that in the year 880 some shepherd boys found a statue of the black madonna, the "Moreneta", in a grotto. A chapel was built on this site that soon became a place of pilgrimage.

Funicular de Sant Joan

Decide with your small group of 8 pax if you want to enjoy a ride in the rack railway that will bring you at the top of the holy mountain. Enjoy astonishing views along the way.

Admission Not Included

Sant Jeroni

Reach the peak of the holy mountain to enjoy a bird's eye view of the entire Montserrat Monastery and of the natural park. On clear days, you will enjoy uninterrupted views of the whole of Catalunya.

Aeri de Montserrat

If you skipped the funicular, you can enjoy the cable car, a breathtaking journey over the Llobregat River and Valley, up the mountain and right up to Montserrat Monastery. The cable car first started running in 1930. It travels at a speed of 5 metres per second and at a gradient of up to 45%. This is a trip that is not for the faint hearted - you will be travelling 1350 metres up the mountain in a small hanging car! However, if you are not afraid of heights, you will be in for a really memorable and rewarding experience.

Admission Not Included

Montserrat Museum

If you wish, you can also decide to visit the Montserrat museum. It has an important section of early paintings, spanning the 13th to the 18th centuries, with works by El Greco, Caravaggio as well as a large collection of Catalan paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries that includes major names such as Fortuny, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso and Dalí but also of French impressionism such as Chagall, Braque, Le Corbusier, Miró, Dalí and Picasso.

Admission Not Included

Penedès DO

After the visit of Montserrat, you will get back on the road to head to the Penedès region. Because of the bright sun and the Mediterranean Sea, the Penedès region has one of the widest varieties of grapes of any wine region in the world. Enjoy great views of the countryside while your guide explains you the features of the area and the importance of its wines. In this magic area time has stopped as the surroundings, the vineyards and even the culinary traditions are still the same as many years before.

Subirats

Among the many lands of the Penedes Area, we have chosen the most representative of the Cava production: Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the capital of Cava. You will discover the origins of this sparkling wine in the hometown of the most ancient and traditional wineries, since its wine growing past goes back to almost five centuries of antiquity.

CCOO Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

Enjoy a short walking tour through the center of Sant Sadurní to understand the importance of Cava in the historical development of the area. There are more than 80 local producers spread over the streets, and the boom in wine production in the late nineteenth century is reflected in the beautiful modernist facades of the buildings from the center of the town.

Marcel was our tour guide. He was awesome. Marcel arrived at our hotel on time and was professional and friendly. He included my girls in the tour asking them pop quiz questions. He is very knowledgeable about Barcelona and the history. The wine tasting stop at Llopart was tasty. We learned a lot about sparkling wine and corpinnat wine from Roger. Next stop Marcel took us to Montserrat and we learned so much about the monks and nuns that live(d) there. The top of the mountain was breathtaking and beautiful. There were so many details in each room of the cathedral and Marcel explained it all to us and answered any questions we had. We also had the pleasure of meeting Marcel’s lovely family.

Our guide, Xavi, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He is a great ambassador for Barcelona and Catalonia. He took us anywhere we wanted to go, and it made for a memorable day. It helped make up for the winery being closed due to a holiday. And he threw in a fabulous restaurant recommendation along the Mediterranean.

Guide was very informative. It was a great day wine tasting event was a little too lengthy, though because of too much talk about wine making.

Alex did a fantastic job! He picked us up right at our hotel, discussed Spanish history on way to Montserrat. While at Montserrat he gave us a private tour and also gave us some time to ourselves. Then off to a delicious lunch at a beautiful restaurant followed by the wine tasting. Perfect day!

Marcel was an excellent guide and provided information in both Spanish and English to accomodate everyone on the tour. Marcel was very knowledgeable about the area and knew which times certain areas would be busy, where to get food/water, which trails and activities we would have time for, etc. Pickup was convenient and on-time. We had plenty of time to ourselves during the Montserrat portion of the day, so you can split off and see whatever you'd like apart from the tour group and guide. The winery tour was excellent as well, the tour was led by an employee of the winery itself.

Our guide, Ramon, was super knowledgeable about the area and interested in his customers’ origins. He made the day informative and interesting. We especially enjoyed the boys choir at the monastery and the wine tasting at the vineyard.

Our day-long tour with Dulce started at the historic Llopart winery where we learned about sparkling wines and enjoyed a few samples. It was a great change of pace from the frantic touring we had been doing! Dulce then took us to a lesser-known restaurant for really yummy local food. Next came, Montserrat, with Dulce providing an excellent explanation of the significance of this beautiful location as well as the unique geological formations in the area. Her description was so captivating I don't think I'll ever forget it. Dulce also provided us with several restaurant recommendations in Barcelona as well as other sites we'd like to see. Not sure you could ask for more of a tour guide!

This was a perfect day trip from Barcelona and a highlight of my two weeks in Spain. The mountain, the monastery, the vineyard, the cava, the cheese tastings, and above all, the guide! Ramón was such a pleasure from start to finish—kind, knowledgeable, funny, helpful, and caring. I heard another member of our tour group say that he wished Ramon was his dad, and I have to agree that anyone would be lucky to have this man as family! His lovely presence made a beautiful day even better. Thank you, Ramón!
