Montserrat
Name means 'serrated mountain', it is perfectly located to play an important role in the cultural and spiritual life of Catalonia. It is Catalonia's most important religious retreat and groups of young people from Barcelona and all over Catalonia make overnight hikes at least once in their lives to watch the sunrise from the heights of Montserrat. The Virgin of Montserrat is Catalonia's favorite saint, and is located in the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat, next to the Benedictine monastery nestling in the towers and crags of the mountain. The Escolania, Montserrat’s Boys’ Choir, is one of the oldest in Europe, and performs during religious ceremonies and communal prayers in the basilica.
Basilica De Montserrat
The basilica has a museum with works of art by many great painters. The museum is divided into three different sections. 1. Modern painting with works of artists such as Santiago Rusinol, Ramon Casas and many others. 2. Archeology of the biblical East showing objects of Egypt, Cyprus and Holy Land. 3. Ancient paintings showing the works by authors such as El Greco, Luca Giordano and many other famous artists. It is very beautiful and also has a great history that you will learn from your expert local guide
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
