The narrow streets, the view from El Parador and lunch at Casa Maria. Will be back to Ronda but not with a tour.

Disappointed and misled would be the most accurate review of our day trip to Rhonda. We selected this trip over other less expensive tours under the impression that we were paying extra so that when we chose an English speaking tour from the drop-down choice in the booking that would be what we would get. That wasn’t the case. Nor was it a 4 hour tour in Rhonda. The tour provider doesn’t actively participate in the tour. They hired a taxi to pick us up at the meeting point and drive us to Rhonda. Once there the driver introduced us to a hired guide to lead us around. While the driver was a nice young man, his English was limited. When he did speak to us during the drive, we couldn’t hear him in the second row of the van. It was a long quiet ride with no narrative as suggested in the tour listing. Once we arrived in Rhonda, the driver said we had an hour and a half on our own before the tour started, gave us a map from the tourist office, and pointed out where the various sites would be from the plaza. He then left to park the van. We headed off to see the sites on our own using the map provided and returned to the plaza on time for our guided tour. The driver met us and introduced us to the tour guide. There were four of us from our van that spoke English and the guide already had a group of 16 that spoke Spanish. While the tour guide was nice and she spoke clear English, it quickly became apparent that 16 outnumber 4 and the majority of her time explaining the sites was going to be in Spanish. A three minute description in Spanish while the four of us stood around, and then a one minute description in English while 16 people stood around. It was so uncomfortable that two of our group bailed out of the tour and went for a cup of coffee. This went on for the two hour tour where she basically took us back to the sites we’d already explored on our own. The tour listing says it’s four hours in Rhonda – apparently two with a guide and two on your own. After the guided tour, we had hoped to stay in the city a little longer to enjoy a bite to eat and drink. But, our van mates had already done that and wanted to head home – which the driver decided we’d do. A long quiet ride back to Malaga. The driver was nice enough to drop us off at the train station instead of the hotel meeting place as we had traveled to Malaga from Torremolinos for this tour. It was a long and disappointing day and didn’t meet up to what we thought we paid for. When we contacted Viator for a refund, our claim was declined by the tour company. After some additional prodding, Viator agreed to refund half of the amount as a good faith gesture on their part (thank you for that), but the tour company didn’t do anything for us. We’d recommend using one of the less expensive options to visit Rhonda as this more expensive tour doesn’t give you a better experience for your money.
