Office of Tourism and Congress of Metropolis of Lyon

At 8:50 am, our guide English Speaking guide will meet you in front of Lyon Office de Tourisme building main entrance door located on Bellecour Square (50 m opposite Le Royal Hotel). After a short walk, participants will get on the 8 seaters minivan to begin the Cotes du Rhone wine tour.

Theatre de Vienne

Start this full day wine tour in Vienne city with a stunning panorama on the Rhone valley from Notre Dame de Pipet Mount. With your guide, be introduced to the different grapes varietals of the Northern Cotes du Rhone, the crus wine appellations and the philosophy of the region relying on "terroir". Take time also to admire the spectacular old roman theatre as you guide tell you about the fascinating history of the wines from Vienne which were famous in Roma, 21 centuries ago.

Ampuis

Cross Ampuis town, the world capital of Syrah and visit "Cote Rotie" vineyards literally "roasted hillside". Drive on the precipitous vertigo inducing terraced slopes of "Cote Brune" and "Cote Blonde" and appreciate the 30 to 60 degree angles hills bathed in sun facing the beautiful Rhône River.

Malleval

At 10:45 am, visit a first winery and learn some secrets about the Rhone wine-making savoir-faire. Walk through the barrels room and talk about the art of aging wine. Then go to the wine-tasting room and taste 3 white and 3 red wines including Condrieu, white & red St Joseph and Cote Rotie famous appellation.

Les Roches-de-Condrieu

Delight yourself with a delicious meal in a local restaurant which serves Cotes du Rhone cuisine. Our guide will be happy to translate and explain all the different courses for you! Menus start from € 20 during the week (special of the day) and € 25 on weekends. Lunch is NOT included.

Condrieu

In early afternoon, cross Condrieu, birth town of Viognier grape which produces the world famous white wine. The group will get to know its unique story, how this grape varietal almost died a few years ago. Then, push the door of a family winery and taste 5-6 different Cotes du Rhone wines among them, Condrieu, St Joseph or/and Cote Rotie appellations.

Chavanay

Finally, stop at a third winery to delight yourself with another 5 beautiful Rhone wines: take time to enjoy the intense aromatic Viognier and the quasi absolute perfection of Syrah grape of the Northern Cotes du Rhone in their original terroir.

Brilliant! We learned so much about wine, the food and the region of Northern Rhone. Our guide Sebastien was super friendly and knowledgeable. A relaxed atmosphere for a small group and some lovely wine discoveries. Definitely recommend.

Even in the middle of winter it was great to visit the vineyards and of course sample the produce! A lovely tour with a friendly guide. Olivier was informative and fun. Also only six of us, which suited me and my partner very well.

We took two wine tours with two different agencies. Wow , they were not comparable! We highly recommend Kanpai Wine tours and excursions with guide& owner Olivier Delalande. We visited 3 extraordinary wineries, each one brought a different taste to the palette . Each winery was welcoming, very generous with a minimum of 6-9 different wine tasting of both red and whites. Their passion for their craft and products are felt in their explicit description of the processes of making their own unique wines. The wineries that Olivier chose were smaller family ran business dating back centuries. Olivier is an expert of the region, he is very engaged with his clients and has endless knowledge of the craft. He is personable, kind and made us feel at home. We highly recommend Kanpai Tours. You will not be disappointed.Enjoy and don’t forget your cameras as the sceneries of the hillside vineyards are absolutely breathtaking!!!

Oliver was our tour guide for this amazing day. He was funny and extremely knowledgeable about the region and wine in general. I was a bit apprehensive about the price but it was worth it. The stops for exploration and pictures were some of the best pictures we took. The vineyard and tasting stops were amazing as well. The wine was great and an excellent introduction to the area. Soooo many different types. I believe we were at 18 total tastings but the end of the day was a little blurry.

My wife and I had a great time (2 different days, one tour of Beaujolais and the next day of Rhone). Both days excellent advice and history of all things related to these wine areas. Very neat places to go that you would never find alone, and was a great 2 days experience. If you are interested in experiencing the unique wines of either of these areas, you will have a great experience here.

We highly recommend this excellent tour of the Northern Rhone. We received an incredible education from Olivier on both the history and the wines of the Northern Rhone during this well crafter and comfortable day. Olivier picked us up from our hotel in Lyon, and transported us throughout the day in his clean and comfortable van. We visited three wineries in three distinct AOCs, and stopped for a lovely local lunch as well. This is an excellent experience for anyone who finds themselves in Lyon or the surrounding area.

Olivier, the guide, is a trained wine specialist, who knows his wine, and the small winemakers who are passionate about their product. Trip is appropriate for any level person interested in wine. Conducted in English or French--and maybe other languages. Just ask.
