Definitely the dinosaurs were the most anticipated and enjoyable exhibit at the Field Museum. They’re everywhere & we loved it! We will be back as we weren’t able to visit every exhibit today. so much to see & learn about!

Loved the Nature walk area and the dinosaur exhibits. Watching the children’s expressions was fun to watch also being a grandparent.

Give yourself plenty of time! We allowed ourself 3 hours thinking that would be enough, honestly could have spent the day there. Excellent displays, my 12 yo daughter and I fully enjoyed the experience. I would highly recommend.

The Field Museum is housed in a beautiful historic building right on Lake Michigan and next to the Shedd Aquarium and the planetarium. It's easily accessible by train (metra) and/or bus. Unlike many of the museums/activities in Chicago, the museum doesn't require reservations nor timed tickets. This is very convenient for foreigners who do not have roaming cellular or wifi access while travelling. Inside the museum is huge, with tons of exhibits and room to visit. The museum is split over two floors and is packed with artifacts from all four corners of the world. The dedicated Egypt room is quite good, especially the walkable replica of the tomb. The Americas exhibit is huge, with tons of rooms that guide you through different regions and cultures. The only downside is that when I visited, many exhibits were covered up in an act of goodwill for the recent talks of artifact repatriation. While I agree with this move, it meant that entire sections of the Americas were blacked out with nothing to read or look at to compensate. It would have been good for the museum to explain why these artifacts were covered, or to replace them with other objects that are less sensitive for viewing. Even though this museum is a "natural history" museum, its focus is much more anthropological. There are a few dinosaur bones to admire in the main lobby, and there are some exhibits with taxidermied animals, but there are many more ethnographic exhibits (Africa, China, America, etc.) Overall, the museum is wonderful with lots of things to see. It can easily take an entire day and more to see everything. It is definitely the best museum/activity to do in Chicago. If you can only do one cultural thing while in Chicago, pick the Field Museum over the Shedd Aquarium.

We were visiting family in Michigan and flew out of Chicago. We needed something dun to do before our flight. I can't recommend the museum more.

IMO inaccessible for an average income family to enjoy the museum (and eat). $91 for a panini sandwich, 3 orders of fries, 2 hotdogs, and a cheeseburger. $45 for a hot dog, mac & cheese, and a cheeseburger. $136 food total for 2 adults and 3 kids ages 11-15. Not to mention $145 to get in all access (bc why would we exclude exhibits?) and $25 to park. The enjoyment we took from the museum was just completely undermined by the high cost. Am I wrong? Is the museum something a family should save up for as like a special trip to drop $500?

All access pass was definitely worth it. There were 2 exhibits not included in the general admissions ticket. Those exhibits alone took up most of the day.

Best field museum for all ages. Very educational experiences. Walked around the museum from 9am to 4:30 PM absorbing learning thousands of displayed items.

The place has an unbelievable number of artifacts and displays. I was surprised that I had spent close to four hours looking at everything and could have spent even longer. It is well worth the price of admission.

We went to see the “The First Kings of Europe “ exhibit and enjoyed it very much but there is so much more to see. We saw “Sue” the T-Rex, the lions of Tsavo and the Egyptian tomb exhibit. There was way too much to see in a day and we definitely want to go back. It was a great day.
