One of our favorite parts of our 2 week visit to Portugal! Our personable guide explained the history of the 5 generation Herdade da Maroteira estate and how cork is grown and harvested. We walked through the cork forest, saw the vineyards and enjoyed explanations of the eco friendly approach that the estate uses to grow cork, olives, cattle and wine. The property was filled with stunning spring flowers as well as the other crops. Afterward we enjoyed appetizers and the local wine at the winerey and then were taken to a very authentic Portugu ese restaurant Absolutely recommend!

A lovely tour with Chantel. She took us out in her SUV to the countryside and we walked about a mile to a 250 year old cork tree/forest. Chantel told us all about the region and how cork is grown and harvested. A great educational experience! Thank you!

From first contact to the end this experience was perfect. Margarida and Philp were wonderful hosts and their farm and land are idyllic. Our guides Chantal and Celino were easy to laugh, knowledgeable and organized. It was like sharing a walk with friends. We learned about cork and wine growing and everything in between. The history is so interesting and the cork trees are amazing. We enjoyed their wines with local meat and cheese and ended the evening at a local restaurant. I wish we had more time here to explore more of this area. We would definitely take this tour again and recommend it. Great value for the cost.

Joana is amazing. Even from the booking stage she was very accommodating and helpful. My husband and I had a very short window of time for us to do the tour and not only was she accommodating, but she came in on her day off so that we could do the tour. It really is one of the highlights of our trip. Joana was very informative, she was funny, an all-around great host. We learned so much about cork trees and their farm and their winery. It truly was fantastic! And even though it was a drizzly, grey day, didn’t matter at all. I loved how everything was organic. The cows are happy, the pigs are happy, the cork trees are happy and healthy and you could see that Joanna loves her job!!

This tour was so much more than just a walk through a cork forest. We learned about the agriculture of Alentejo, the history of the family that owns the land, the farming practices they follow to make the endeavor successful and sustainable, and so much more. Our guide Joana Salgado was funny, engaging, and knowledgeable. She is from Redendo and so she is in tune with the local economy and customs but also brings a perspective that is so much broader based on her own life experience. It was truly one of the highlights of our vacation in Portugal.

This tour was a highlight of our trip to Portugal. We were impressed with the Jeep tour and we got a real flavour of the family’s commitment to sustainability and commitment to the environment. The actual Jeep ride and tour provided by Joana was excellent and very informative. I was awed by the cork trees and learned tons about the harvest, the years it takes to produce the harvestable layers and the manual effort to peel the cork layer without harming the tree. I would definitely recommend it. A plus was then a trip to the winery for a tasting. The wines were excellent quality and taste. Wish we could take even more home!

Andre was very knowledgeable and his English was excellent. A very interesting and informative afternoon walking in the cork, acorn trees, and vineyards. The only downside for me was the heat in late afternoon, but I can’t fault Corktreking for the weather.

A must see if you travel to Portugal. Learn about the long and special process the cork in your wine bottle comes from. It is an art! One of Portugal's cultural gems. Guide is professional and makes the tour interesting and fun.
