Tom was a very knowledgeable photographer that took us to really interesting locations for amazing photos! We spent an hour photographing a mom brown bear with cubs having lunch on salmon. I would give him 10 stars however we are limited to 5! BTW…it was raining the entire time. Don’t be frighten as the animals don’t care. Thanks Tom for a great day:) Kim&Bob

When our cruise itinerary changed from Skagway to Haines we weren’t sure what to do for our day at port, but we are very glad we found Tom from all the great reviews. He obviously knows the area well including the best places to spot wildlife. His photography tips were great. He is easy going and friendly. We highly recommend taking a tour with him!

We spent our first day in Haines with Tom Ganner and it was a delight. I am an amateur photographer with good Canon camera bodies and lenses. His pre tour questionnaire prompted me to assess my knowledge and skills and identify where I wanted to improve. With that information Tom guided me to be more comfortable using the camera's manual settings to capture better images. His wildlife photos are spectacular and something to aspire to. The bonus of the tour was his historical and local knowledge of the sites he took us to photograph. Try to do this worthwhile tour early in your trip so you can practice your new skills while still in Haines.

We recently took a photography tour with Tom in Haines, and we had an absolutely amazing time! Tom is an incredibly knowledgeable and experienced photographer. He was able to teach us so much about photography, from the basics of composition to more advanced techniques like long exposure of a waterfall and photographing eagles. We visited some of the most beautiful places in Haines, and Tom setup incredible shots for us. We learned so much on this tour, and came away with some amazing photos. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in improving their photography skills. Here are some specific things that we loved about the tour: The small group size. This meant that we got a lot of personalized attention from Tom, and we were able to ask him as many questions as we wanted. The variety of locations. We visited a wide variety of landscapes, so we got to practice shooting in different conditions. The post-processing suggestions. Tom gave us a few post-processing tips, and showed us how to use snapseed. We are having a great time processing our Alaska photos. We were so fortunate that Tom was available. We had an amazing experience, learned a lot, made some great photos, and had a lot of fun. We would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in improving their photography skills or just visiting beautiful nature sites without the large crowds of a cruise excursion.

Tom was a great guide. He’s very knowledgeable and friendly. While we didn’t see as much wildlife as we wanted, we still got to see many scenic sites around Hanes. Tom taught us some photography tricks on our phones which was nice.

What an exciting, fun adventure! Tom has so much experience with photographing eagles and so willing to share. Habits and patterns of the eagles, the best settings for the current lighting and locations that we could visit on our own. We stayed with Tom and his wonderful wife (who was an awesome chef!) at his custom built home with the most amazing view to wake up to and his car that gave us complete freedom. I'm looking forward to scheduling Tom for a bear encounter.

I want to recommend this photo tour to anyone that is going to Haines Alaska. Whether you are planning a trip on you own, or arriving on a cruise ship Tom Ganner will not disappoint . I was wanting to visit Haines to photograph Bald Eagles, I called Tom and shared in ins and outs of how to plan my trip from the lower 48. I can say that I listened to his ideas on how to plan my trip, and it all worked out professionally. If I had it to do over I wouldn't change a thing. Tom picked me up at my in town motel and took me around and showed me the places to visit on my own. He made many recommendations for camera setting, equipment needed and so on. I booked a one day photo tour and what I got out that one day, gave me information that made the next seven days a success. If I hadn't found Tom, I feel I would have lost about 3 days trying to do it all by myself. Location is everything and Tom know the location.

Tom provided great personalized, tailored instruction and took us to all the great spots to view and photograph wildlife. His knowledge of the history and local cultures was first rate. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic morning out in Haines with Tom and his Subaru! We got an early start to the day to beat the rest of the cruise ship crowds, and it was worth it; we saw 11 bears in the span of 2 hours. 3 different mama bears and their cubs, all out looking for salmon. We were able to watch them do their bear things from safe viewpoints, and . We also saw tons of bald eagles along the Chilkoot River and at the lake. Tom had his binoculars and a spotting scope, so we were able to see the eagles perched in the trees so clearly. Absolutely beautiful wildlife and scenery. Afterwards, Tom made some nice scenic stops for us, and even gave me some time at the tide pools. We then went through town, stopped at the fort briefly, and continued on our way to Chilkat State Park. The sun came out for a little while when we were there, just enough for some truly beautiful photos. Tom is a patient, knowledgeable man, with lots of facts about the town, its history, the animals, and photography. Book with him early! He only takes a few tours a week, and only 4 people at a time, so you don't want to miss out.

What a delightful day we spent with Tom as he guided us around the Chilkat Peninsula! As a retired earth science teacher and photographer, Tom has a wealth of knowledge about the geography, history, and flora and fauna of the Haines area and kept us engaged and entertained for 5 hours. He asked what I wanted to photograph and I said bears, eagles and everything in between—and he delivered! As a long-time resident, he knew all the best areas for capturing amazing images and offered helpful suggestions for camera settings and composition. It was a fantastic end to a memorable trip. Now I can’t wait to get home and start processing my images!
