This is a somewhat strenuous walk that takes you through some pastureland, then down through beautiful wooded areas, culminating in a canyon floor with an incredible spring fed pool. The hike back up to the start was shorter, and not quite as scenic, but still enjoyable. Our guide stopped along the way to describe some of the native plants and trees.

We really enjoyed our hike with Federico. The canyon was lush and green and we had a nice swim at a lovely pool at the bottom. Federico was also very knowledgeable and sociable, and offered detailed explanations of the plant and wildlife we encountered. Basic fitness is recommended, and while we were lucky during the ascent that it just then became cloudy, that part of the hike is potentially quite warm as it is exposed (not much shade).

What can I say? Etna was remarkable, the lava cave, the gorge and the trip to a nearby farm were all cultural delights! Our guide, Nataly from the Etna Tribe, made the full day feel like a visceral classroom. We have travelled extensively and found the trip to Sicily to be a non-stop surprise. We absolutely loved the entire time there and our excursion with Nataly reinforced the hospitality, authenticity and vast beauty of the island and its people. Go! You will love it!

Purtroppo non possiamo dare un giudizio positivo. Decidiamo di passare il ferragosto sull'etna, prenotiamo il tour. Ottima la possibilità di prenotare il giorno prima pagando online. Pick up direttamente in albergo (a dir la verità in un orario logisticamente rivedibile). Arrivati sull'Etna un solo membro del gruppo decide di salire fino ai 3000 metri, per accompagnarlo alla funivia la guida ci lascia un'ora liberi: INUTILE! Non c'è il tempo di fare un giro come si deve e si perde tempo per negozietti inutili! Una volta tornata è il momento del tour dei crateri ma inizia a piovere. Giro frettoloso e inconsistente. È tempo di andare a riprendere il tizio salito con la funivia. Altra perdita di tempo. Finalmente il sole ma.... Dobbiamo andare. Grotta a scorrimento lavico niente di che... Un plauso a Giacoma, divertente, preparata e disponibile ma 55€ (e una giornata) SPRECATI. Organizzazione pessima, ottimizzazione dei tempi (questa sconosciuta!), incapacità di gestire gli "imprevisti" creati dalle condizioni meteo. Si poteva fare di molto meglio, non lo rifaremmo nella maniera più assoluta, tornando indietro ci saremmo organizzate autonomamente. Peccato, davvero peccato.

Meine Freundin und ich haben uns für die Etna Nature an Flavours Tour von Syrakus aus entschieden. Im Vorfeld konnten wir die Tour ohne Probleme buchen und haben auch sofort eine Rückmeldung bekommen. Vor Beginn der Reise bekamen wir des Weiteren auch nochmal eine E-Mail, dass man sich auf uns freue und man uns am Hotel gegen 9:00 Uhr abhole. Die Kommunikation stimmte also von Beginn an und wir freuten uns auf die bevorstehende Exkursion. Am besagten Morgen warteten wir vor unserem Hotel auf einer Bank und wurden auch schnell von Enzo in Empfang genommen, der uns mit einem gut gelaunten und strahlenden "Guten Morgen" in Empfang nahm und uns zum Autobus brachte, da unser Hotel nur schlecht mit dem Auto zu erreichen war. Wir stiegen also ins Auto und lernten unsere Mitfahrer kennen, denen wir uns kurz vorstellten. Daraufhin begann unsere Reise zum Feuerberg von Sizilien. Die Fahrt von Syrakus von Catania dauerte sehr lange, aber unser Guide Enzo nutzte die Zeit, um uns einen herzlichen Einblick in das sizilianische Leben zu geben, warum die Flagge von Sizilien so aussieht, wie sie aussieht und welche regionalen Gegebenheiten man kennen sollte. Wir fühlten uns schnell sehr herzlich aufgenommen, da Enzo mit seiner lebensfrohen und freundlichen Art schnell das Eis brach. Das besondere an unserem Guide war, dass er neben Italienisch, auch perfekt Deutsch und Englisch sprach und alle Informationen und Geschichten multilingual erklären bzw. erzählen, sodass jeder seinen Erzählungen folgen konnte. Man erkannte schnell, dass Enzo mit Herzblut in seinem Element war und stets Freude daran hatte, Fragen aller Art zu beantworten, auf eine humorvolle und zuvorkommende Art und Weise, dass auch noch reichlich Platz für Scherze waren. Kurz gesagt, fühlten wir uns wohl und hatten den Eindruck, dass unser Guide sein Handwerk versteht. In Catania angekommen brachte uns Enzo auf 1900m, wo sich die Seilbahn befand. Da eine private Firma die Infrastruktur hatte einrichten lassen, konnte man für 64 Euro ein Ticket erwerben und den Ätna bis auf 3000m mithilfer der Seilbahn und speziellen Fahrzeugen zu erreichen, da das ganze Gelände nicht gerade ungefährlich ist. Oben wartete ein extra ausgebildeter Bergsteiger auf uns, der uns zu einem der Hauptkrater mitnahm und uns allerlei Informationen zum Ätna erzählte. Der Anblick war umwerfend und man fühlte sich in eine andere Welt versetzt. Nach etwa einer Stunde auf 3000m fuhren wir mit den speziellen Bussen und der Seilbahn wieder hinunter, wo Enzo gut gelaunt auf uns wartete und mit einem "Na, hat es euch gefallen?" in Empfang nahm. Danach ging es weiter zu der Lavahöhle Cassone, was so viel wie Holzbox heißt. Der Name leitete sich von der Nutzung der Höhle als Vorratskeller ab, da sich am Fuße des Ätnas früher ein kleines Dorf befand, was jedoch aufgrund der immer wieder auftauchenden Eruptionen am Ätna verlassen wurde. Enzo drückte uns also alle eine Helm und eine Taschenlampe in die Hand und ging mit uns in die Höhle, in der uns zahlreiche geologische Phänomene erklärte, wie die Höhle entstanden sei und woran man das erkennen könne. Es war stockdunkel und zugleich wunderschön in der Höhle, von dessen Wände das Wasser tropfte. Am Ende der gut 200m langen Höhle war sogar noch Zeit ein Foto zu machen und auch hier übernahm Enzo gut gelaunt die Rolle des Fotografen. Im Anschluss fuhren wir wieder den Ätna hinab und besuchten eine örtlichen Biohof. Da meine Freundin und ich beides begnadete Hobbyköche sind und ganz wild auf die örtlichen Delikatessen waren, kam uns der Abstecher gerade Recht. Enzo erklärte uns einige Dinge zum örtlichen Imkereihandwerk und wir gingen gemeinsam in den Biohof, der allerlei Dinge, vom lokalen Mandelwein, über Oliven und Olivenöl bis hin zum eigenen Honig zum Probieren ausstellte. Die Produkte vor Ort waren hochwertig und zu unserem Erstaunen günstiger, als Produkte, die man in allen lokalen Läden in Syrakus erwerben konnte. Wir hatten nicht das Gefühl einer Kaffeefahrt oder, dass die Produkte überteuert seien. Allem in allem hatten wir einen wirklich wunderbaren Tag und einen schönen Aufenthalt am bzw. auf dem Ätna und ich kann Enzo als Guide nur herzlichst empfehlen. Er versteht einfach sein Handwerk, hat immer ein coolen Spruch auf lager, der zum Schmunzeln und Lachen einlädt und man merkt einfach in jeder seiner Worte, dass sein Herz für die Region schlägt.
