Your Itinerary

Omaha Beach

We will visit the part of the beach that was depicted in the opening scenes of the film Saving Private Ryan: here is where the heaviest casualties on D-Day were suffered amongst the men of the Blue and Gray. We will also visit the location where Brigadier-General Norman ‘Dutch’ Cota’s leadership and inspiration were instrumental in breaking through the German defenses.

Cimetiere Militaire Allemand de La Cambe

Just outside this village a few days after its liberation, a provisional US cemetery was created. A large number of troops of the 29th Infantry Division were buried here in the months to follow. Since 1954 it has been a German cemetery.

Isigny-sur-Mer

The first major hurdle to link up with the 101st Airborne Division near Carentan in the Utah Sector, this town was taken by the 175th Infantry Regiment and 747th Tank Battalion.

Canchy

A surprise tactical move by the 115th Infantry Regiment secured a vital break in the German lines, allowing the 29th to expand their beachhead.

Cartigny l'Epinay

The 2nd Battalion of the 115th Regiment got caught here in an ambush, which was to have a major effect on the Regiment for the days to come.

Saint-Clair-sur-l'Elle

Crossing the river Elle was a vital step in the advance towards Saint Lô. You will see the difficult terrain the soldiers of the 115th and 116th regiment had to cross and how the battles for the bridges across the river were so costly.

Villiers-Fossard

At Hill 102 we focus on the 175th Infantry Regiment’s heroic stand. It became known as Purple Heart Hill.

Bellefontaine

Site of a counter attack by German Paratroopers against the 115th Regiment.

Saint-Lo

A Taskforce was formed to smash through the German defence and secure this strategic crossroads town once and for all on 18 July 1944. We will follow their route and visit the town that became known as the Capital of Ruins.

We traveled with another couple and stayed at Mike and Deborah's B & B. Each couple had a well-appointed room with a private bath. Each morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast including fresh breads and fresh eggs from their hens. Each evening, they recommended local restaurants for us and called and made our reservations. Mike was with us for a full day. His tour allowed us to stand on the beaches and other sites where the battles and significant events occurred with full discussion of how the attacks were planned and how they actually occurred and why the differences. Mike made sure that we arrived at the American cemetery in time for the daily playing of Taps and lowering of the flags. Allied Victory Tours, Mike, had been recommended to us by our neighbors who had toured with him previously. We, likewise, would highly recommend touring with Mike, Allied Victory Tours, if you're looking for a thorough, educational tour of Normandy. A special treat was a tour of Deborah's private Women of Valour WW 2 Museum. It is an incredible collection of over 200 Allied women's uniforms. She started her collection to honor the Sweetwater, Texas, all women pilots. This was very special to us as we had lived in Sweetwater, Texas, and were well aware of these fearless women's training.

This was a very special time for my extended family due to our uncle's D-Day experiences. Mike not only led the tour for ~ 50 people but he made all the arrangements to make this trip perfect for all our needs. We cannot thank him enough! The William Joseph McGowan family and friends

Reviewed by Mark and Linda Watson mkwatso5@yahoo.com If you have wanted to go to Normandy now is the time. Go Now! There are no crowds and France has an excellent Covid program in place. Mike@alliedvictorytours is an excellent tour guide. This review has 2 parts describing the wonderful visit we had with Mike and Deborah van den Dobbelsteen. The private guide through the American zone Normandy landings was excellent. Mike tailored the experience to match my interest in following the 29th Infantry Regiment from the landing on Omaha Beach through the bocage obstacles to St Lô. Also 4th Div at Utah Beach including 82nd and 101st landing sites and memorials. He was well informed about every significant and out of the way site and included narrative describing the actions and terrain we visited. This included specific German bunkers and 29th individual and company fighting locations on the ground. We visited many of the unit action memorials and associated churches. Mike provided a full service tour including a comfortable van. You will be very happy at the end of your visit to the American sectors when you choose Mike as your guide. Part two is our stay at the vintage B&B operated by Mike and his wife Deborah. From the moment you are greeted by Deborah at the doorway you are invited into their world of life in WW2. You will not find more gracious hosts to provide for your comfort and food. My wife cannot say enough to describe the joy she felt in their remodeled stone farmhouse and out buildings including garden, museum and a dedicated memorial site. The bedrooms and bathrooms were appointed with modern features but the highlight was the decor dedicated to the soldiers who specifically fought around their property which borders on the famous Elle river crossing. Deborah tailored our wonderful breakfast and lunch to meet our schedule and dietary needs. The fresh eggs from a neighbor added a special treat. The B&B is located centrally between the beaches and St Lô. You will be as happy with a night or longer stay as we were in this lovely family B&B. Regards - Mark & Linda Watson

I went in this tour with the rest of my family and it was absolutely incredible! We went to Pegasus Bridge first and went to the British and Canadian beaches, finishing off with a visit to the Bayeux War Cemetery. Our tour guide was called Mike and he was wonderful to talk to as well as giving us loads of interesting bits of history that we wouldn’t have known about!
