Please note that lunch and wine tastings at the cellar are not included in the tour price. However, you have the freedom to choose from the à la carte menu or the menu of the day at the cellar. If you prefer not to have lunch in the cellar, you can still enjoy a wine tasting session at 3:30 pm. The basic tasting of four wines costs €25 per person.

Castello dei Ventimiglia

Walking tour of the ancient castle of the Ventimiglia family. You can admire the Chapel of St. Anne The holy skull of St. Anne arrived in town in 1458 when the Ventimiglias decided to settle in Castelbuono. Originally from Ventimiglia, Liguria they mysteriously received the relic from the Duke of Lorraine, France. One day in 1605, the guardian monk stole the relic and took it to Palermo. He confessed only on his deathbed, notes Elisabeth. Finally in 1615 the Ventimiglias returned the relic to their castle and secured the silver reliquary bust in the chapel behind a grate with several locks. Entrance € 5 each person

Chiesa Maria SS. Assunta - Matrice Vecchia

The church was dedicated to Holy Mary of the Assumption and its construction dates back to the middle of the fourteenth century. The Matrice Vecchia displays a majestic Polyptych on the high altar, attributed to Antonio De Saliba, the nephew of Antonello da Messina. The work depicts the Virgin Mary with the Eternal Father holding up the world above. The painting shows a Patriarch with glasses, which makes it particular and rare in the sacral context. Then, under the feet of the faithful there is a crypt containing in turn a marble ciborium, made by Giorgio da Milano. Then, a niche includes the statue of Santa Maria degli Angeli, placed in the structure around 1520 and made by Antonello Gagini.

Castelbuono

Walking tour on the main street from the Castle to Piazza Margherita where you can admire the shops that sell the Manna. The specialty has been the principal source of the town income since the 18th century. Manna is a natural sugar that comes from a special ash tree called fraxinus ornus. Manna takes the form of a whitish stalactite that manages to be vaguely sweet. It drips from the ash trees in Castelbuono and the nearby town of Pollina. The sap is extracted by making a cut in the bark and on both stems and branches.

Famous pastry shop well known in all over the world, because of the Panettoni Christmas cakes. Tasting included during the opening days

We utilized Cefalu Transfer for our entire family (6 of us and all of our luggage) to Cefalu, from Palermo, and on our return to the airport. It was an amazing experience with a very fun, informative, and very safe driver. The vehicle was spacious with lots of windows and all of our luggage was accommodated! We also used Cefalu Transfer for our Mt Etna/Vineyard excursion Day. Marco was our driver and navigated the twisty roads as a most experienced driver. He was so friendly, also informative, and really took very good care of all of us the entire day. The vehicle was immaculate and very comfortable. Everyone was on time and extremely helpful. We will most certainly be using them again on our next Cefalu vacation. We highly recommend this service - easy, very affordable, professional, no worries at all!

We really can not begin to say enough POSITIVE AND AMAZING things about Marco and Elisabeth! The van was spotless and so comfortable. Marco and Elisabeth were very professional, Punctual and so knowledgeable. We learned loads of interesting information from the stops along the way and our private tour of town with Elisabeth. We all loved stopping for tea and treats.Lunch at the vineyard /luxury hotel was truly a hilight ! Such amazing service and divine food and wine served in a gorgeous setting. This tour went beyond our expectations and we all created a wonderful rich memory for life. Marco and Elisabeth are extremely accomondating and flexible as well. Suitable and fun for all adult ages.

Marco of Cefalu Transfer was a complete professional while at the same time making you feel comfortably and casually at home. You will have nothing to worry about while you are in his hands. He was also quick to be helpful with questions and needs outside of his duties of giving you a great experience. All of our family members old and young were impressed how knowledgeable both Marco and his wife Elizabeth were with both the current state of affairs and the history of the region. You will not be disappointed.
