What to expect
Idanha-a-Velha
Founded in the Roman period, Idanha-a-Velha presents itself as an “open-air museum”, which occupies an unavoidable place in the context of the country's archaeological sites. This remarkable architectural and archaeological complex is classified as a National Monument and is part of the network of Historic Villages in Portugal. We will go through its wall, walk over a Roman bridge and discover its unavoidable role in the defense of Portuguese territory.
Aldeia historica de Monsanto
Monsanto is the most amazing village in Portugal. The village's stone houses are built into the side of a rocky mountain. Following a trail, you reach the top of the mountain where the different Castelo de Monsanto is located. More recently, Monsanto played host to the prequel House of the Dragon, starring in "The Dragon Stone" We will walk through this magnificent village admiring its landscape and construction until we reach the Castle. Arriving at the Castle, the filming locations will be duly visited. Pedestrian walk - approx. 3km
Penha Garcia
Its origins are lost in time. The Templar Castle, at the top of a hill, offers the ideal view over the deep cut of the Ponsul valley, where this geo-monument preserves countless traces of what life was like in this place 480 million years ago, when these quartzite ridges were a immense sea. Times when the region was close to the South Pole and trilobites and their predators reigned, in an impressive world of aquatic biodiversity. Today it is the “cradle” of Geopark Naturtejo, the 1st Portuguese one, of the UNESCO World Geoparks Network. Its charming river beach will not be left out, where, in the summer months, you can take the opportunity to cool off. An absolutely unmissable tour that we will cover for about 1.5 km
Praia Fluvial de Penha Garcia
On hot afternoons in Beira Baixa, you can enjoy the river beach of Penha Garcia.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
