Your Itinerary

St. Mary's Abbey

Ruins of St. Mary's Abbey, an important Benedictine Monastery established in York in the XII century, and dissolved but King Henry VIII in 1540's. Museum Gardens, Roman Tower, King's Manor.

Shambles

Medieval street, next to the market. A great collection of houses and 'snickelways' (very short streets) built during the Middle Ages. An ideal setting to inspire images of Harry Potter! Shambles is one of the York most famous landmarks.

St. Helen's Square

Mansion house -the residency of the Lord Major- the former entrance to Roman York and buildings from the XVIII and XIX centuries, a busy corner of York, with bars and restaurants. Edificios del Siglo XVIII y XIX, ingreso típico al centro histórico y comercial de York.

York City Walls

We climb some steps and explore a sector of this formidable medieval wall, very well preserved. To access and exit the city walls, there is always one of the many large towers used as entrance to the city for hundreds of years.

Merchant Adventurers' Hall

We stop to admire this beautiful building finished in 1360 AD. For centuries, this magnificent house was the centre of commercial activities for some of the influential people of York. A jewel in the middle of the city.
