Your Itinerary

Horizontal Falls

Departing Broome, you track over the Chinatown district of Broome, sweeping over Roebuck Bay and surrounds. The flight path takes you over Malcolm Douglas Crocodile farm and the Broome Road before heading towards the Dampier Peninsula. As you fly past the millions of hectares of station land, rich in Aboriginal Heritage, your pilot will regale you with stories and the history of the area before you enter the area known as the Buccaneer Archipelago. Looming ahead will be the Kimbolton Ranges, an ancient coastal seabed of the region. These ancient relics are the product of a once Devonian reef system. The thousands of islands that form the Buccaneer Archipelago become distinct. You are now over pristine pearl farming waters where only a few pearl farms of the archipelago become visible. Photo opportunities abound here. The Horizontal Waterfalls soon come into sight as the aircraft is positioned to get the perfect view from the window. This magnificent example of Mother Nature’s power is closely aligned between the gorges of the McLarty Range, located in Talbot Bay. The Horizontal Falls are a fast moving tidal flow through two narrow fingers, the direction of the flow reverses with each change of tide. As tides in the Kimberley can reach ten metres, a peak tide gives rise to a significant difference in the sea level on either side of each gorge, which creates the rushing water and illusion of the Horizontal Falls. Flying over Talbot Bay, the home of the famous Paspaley Pearling Empire, you see the hundreds of long lines each housing the valuable oysters that cultivate the pearl. Your Pilot weaves through the islands of Cockatoo and Koolan (mining empires) and heads towards Cape Leveque where the red rock cliffs meet the white sandy beaches bordering the pristine blue waters.

Cygnet Bay

At Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm you are escorted on a tour to take you behind the scenes of one of Australia’s most secretive industries. You are taken on the sea to view a real-life working pearl farm, offering you the unique opportunity to witness the beauty of this area from the water as well as from the air. Cruise through the Kimberley rock islands in the Sunday Island group on the powerful boat and view the standing waves and whirlpools- *NOTE* If the tides are in neaps the boat will cruise the island group, created by this region’s giant tidal movements. At the end of this incredible boat tour enjoy the opportunity to browse Cygnet Bay’s stunning loose pearls and exquisite pearl jewellery. You might like to take the opportunity to purchase your own. You will then feast on a delicious gourmet lunch at the Cygnet Bay Restaurant. After lunch, you head back to the skies for a quick forty five minutes of flying back to Broome.

Cable Beach

On the return to Broome expect to wonder at Lombadina, Beagle Bay, James Price Point, Pender Bay, Willie Creek, Cable Beach, Broome Town and Roebuck Bay from a unique point of view!

You cannot comprehend the force of the tidal movement and the sheer volume of water. The boat was ok. The seats were very cramped, not a lot of space.

We were treated to an amazing day, expertly guided by our beautiful pilot Monica, who ensured that our trip was one to be remembered for a very long time. Thank you Monica, your professionalism excelled all expectations.

We booked this tour which unfortunately was cut short due to the bad weather. The pilot did try to fly us through the weather but in the end decided it wasn’t safe so turned back. He was able to give us a comprehensive aerial tour of the Broome area which was great. The company only charged us the equivalent of the Broome sight seeing flight and refunded us the difference which came through within 2 days. Thanks Siggy for all your help with this.

The flight over the Horizontal Falls was amazing & the pilot Max was very informative. Cygnet Bay was a stunning location & included breakfast & lunch which was fine. However after the pearl farm tour Broome Aviation had neglected to add my name on the sea safari tour, so I was not on the manifest to board the boat to see the whirlpools & waterfall reef. This meant I had to wait at Cygnet Bay for 2 hours & was given a free drink voucher…this was very very disappointing as the tour cost me $1145 & left me feeling flat for the rest of the trip home. I was refunded $343 which I felt was poor considering it was the company’s mistake. So I will not be recommending this tour to others.

My wife and I went on this tour on Monday 29 May 2023. The tour for us was overall interesting and scenic. However we were disappointed in a few aspects of Broome aviation. The initial booking process with Siggy was good after Viatourcould not automatically confirm it online. However the night before the tour we did not get contacted for confirmation of the all important pickup times until 10:10pm, very late, after we had chased up Broome Aviation on the phone. The next day we were worried on the flight that we were in the back two seats of the small 6 seater Cessna with a rather immobile elderly woman and her large daughter seated in the two seats in front of us adjacent the exit doors. If there had been an emergency landing and exit there would be very little prospect of us getting out fast because of the immobility of the two middle seat passengers. We believe Broome Aviation did not take any due consideration of ensuring the exit row passengers were suitable for sitting in that location. The safety was questionable in my opinion. A further disappointing aspect was that one lady on our tour missed out on the boat trip from the Cygnet Bay pearl farm. This was apparently because Broome Aviation did not make the relevant booking with the boat operator. The lady was extremely disappointed and the rest of us felt terrible as well. The lady who missed out had to wait around for the couple of hours with very little to do. She did not get a full refund for the day and only got a $343 refund for the boat component. We believe this is very ordinary on Broome Aviation’s part. All in all I do not recommend the tours offered by Broome Aviation.

We had a fantastic time flying to the Horizontal Falls with Broome Aviation. Our pilot Max was professional, knowledgeable of the areas we were flying over and did everything he could to ensure our flight/tour was the most comfortable. We found the Giant Tides tour to be value for money. It is an experience that will be remembered. The flight path provides excellent photo opportunities. 10/10 to Max and the team at Broome Aviation. When next in Broome we will definitely check out the other tours on offer.

Whilst not a super wow experience, the 2 hour fast boat tour was very scenic and the ocean reef water falls quite amazing to see. Skipper Janie was very informative with info on Pearl harvesting & the impact of the tides causing the ocean water fall. We enjoyed the outing.

The whole experience was fantastic, from the moment we met our pilot Sam her enthusiasm flowed through the whole tour. Magical views of the Dampier peninsula and the Horizontal Fall's combined with expert and fun commentary from Sam made the flight very enjoyable. The cygnet Bay Pearl Farm provided an enormous breakfast to greet us. Our ride on the fast boat was a thrill, the expert commentary from our skipper coupled with once in a life time experience of the huge tidal flows made it a great day out.
