We took the Grand Baja tour which leaves out of the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego. The bus was late. We boarded one bus, was dropped off at the border, was told to walk across where we would board another bus. The host on the bus flirted profusely with members of a bridesmaid party. We boarded a bus where we were introduced to our driver/guide Juan. Juan said he had been a tour guide for 15 years. Not only did he skip several items on the tour itinerary like the Zoo and Cultural Center but he drove like a bat out of hell. On several occasions he nearly rear ended several cars. He had to quickly swerve to keep from hitting orange cones. He drove the bus like it was a sports car. He never took into account that buses require a longer time to break. He darted in and out of lanes and tailgated the entire time. At times he drove at speeds nearing 100 mph. You cannot have a weak heart with this guy as driver. We were late and behind schedule. The restaurant had horrible service. Juan went in the kitchen and personally got his own plate and those that were sitting at his table, even though he saw that several of us had not received our plates. The tour guide should ALWAYS eat last. If is incredibly unprofessional for him to chew down on his meal when he could see that many of us had waited over 35 minutes for our food and STILL had not been served. It was as also unprofessional of him to accept a large bottle of Tequila from a customer and THEN take a swig of it while driving the bus. There were times when he either didn't have both hands on the wheel or he had one hand on the wheel and the other hand holding his microphone or texting on his cell phone. I'm just thankful we all made it back in one piece.
