Once we meet we shall depart Stornoway travelling to the most northerly part of the island and arriving in Ness

Butt of Lewis Lighthouse

With its magnificent cliffs and an abundance of bird life including Gannets, Arctic Terns and Shags, which has also been noted as the windiest place in the UK

The Blackhouse, Arnol

This traditional, fully furnished thatched house once sheltered a family and its animals under the same roof. Closed Wednesday & Sunday from 01/10/23-31/03.2024

Carloway Broch

The broch was probably constructed about 200 BC. Evidence from excavations suggests Dun Carloway may have been used until about AD 1000. It’s also said to have been used as a stronghold by members of the Morrison Clan during the 1500s.

Callanish Standing Stones

The Calanais Standing Stones are an extraordinary cross-shaped setting of stones erected 5,000 years ago.

First, Hugh was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. He drove us all over telling us stories and interesting details of life on the island. We got to see so many beautiful areas including the best beach ever for a packed lunch! Fav part-high giving my mother his arm to get up the hilltop at the broch so she wouldn’t miss the view or the history. Really a great choice for our family including grandparents and kids.

Booked a tour coming from a cruiseship. Big problem : ship was not able to dock that day, docking got delayed by a day. No problem for Hugh who just picked us up a day later. And about the tour itself : exeptional

All interactions up to the day were so welcoming and professional and even after we couldn’t dock due to weather he rearranged his schedule so we could do it the next day. Had a full day tour with Hugh to the sites I wanted to see that were not on scheduled tours. He went out of his way, literally, to make sure I got to where I wanted to go. Besides the scheduled stops at Callanish, Carloway Broch, Black House, and Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, he took me out to the Iolarie Memorial, Dun Eistean - Morrison Family stronghold) Port Ness, the Whale Bone Arch and The Herring Girls state in Stornoway. When I mentioned being a fan of Peter May's Lewis Trilogy, he points out many of the locations mentioned in the books as we passed. (Reread them when I got home and they really came to life.) Hugh is a very personable tour guide who takes great pride in his family business. Met Gordon and Hugh's son-in Law, who also give tours,and I think you'll be in good hands with all of them. This was the hi light of my Scottish vacation. (Need to return and do Harris)

It was absolutely marvellous. One of the best day of my 5 nights mini cruise with Fred Olsen. Hughes was such a knowledgeable guide and looked the Scottish part,. He knew everything about the Isle of Lewis, so informative nothing was too much trouble to take us around and answer our questions. I read the book by Peter May "The black house and it was all there. So much history on this small Island Yes great day. Very good value so much better to go on a small private tour
