If you're looking to kill some time on your shore day and don't really mind what that entails, this might be for you. However for our group of 4, we booked this tour with the expectation we'd focus on Cradle Mountain (as the name suggests). Unfortunately we were only advised once we reached the visitor centre that we'd only have "20-30 minutes" to self-explore after purchasing our entrance fee (another $55 per couple). The guide dismissed any early and ongoing attempts we made to accommodate that preference. Instead we wasted 45 minutes at a restaurant that was overpriced, empty and still managed to forget our order (despite the guide handing us printed menus in the car, which was a bit strange). We spent another 45 minutes travelling on a longer route back that was in reality just a windy road that didn't help anyone's motion sickness and another couple of unremarkable stops. There was easily more time OR this could've been a half-day tour at half the cost. The communication was handled poorly (I'd go as far as to say unprofessional). Overall, felt like an expensive Uber. This is my first review and I decided to leave it, so people can make an informed choice. I wish there were more reviews prior to me booking and that's a lesson for next time.

We had a wonderful private excursion with John to the Cradle Mountain. We are traveling on a cruise ship. John picked us up at cruise port and brought us back in time. Eloquent, friendly, kind, excellent driver, proud Devonporter and full of stories. Very knowledgeable about the past and present and good eye for what his guest want. John walks with you in the national Park and shows you the most beautiful spots. We took a different route on the way back, giving us more time to see other aspects of Tasmania. Highly recommended.

We had a very enjoyable tour with our guide John and just the 4 of us rather than a coach full of fellow cruise passengers . It was so good to spend some time with a local person who knows the area so well and John is very generous both with his time and his knowledge as well as being a man with a great sense of humour plus a huge enthusiasm for sharing his Tasmania. We saw everything on the itinerary including lovely Cradle Mountain area and John shared some not-in-the-guidebook quirky details which were very interesting We swapped contact details as soon as we got to Australia which meant that we could keep each other well informed of any inevitable changes to things such as our arrival time.

We had a lovely day with John on a shore day excursion from a cruise ship. If you want a private tour without the cattle call of a cruise booked excursion, John is the guide for you. He strikes the perfect balance of informative involvement and respectful distance to enjoy the experience. He is knowledgeable and engaging. He goes out of his way to show you the Tassie culture and landscape. Highly recommend!
