Pua'a Ka'a State Park

Puaʻa Kaʻa State Wayside Park is a state park on the island of Maui, Hawaiʻi. It is located along the Hana Highway approximately 39 mi east of Kahului. The area consists of 5 acres of rainforest with waterfalls and pools. The park is at an elevation of 1,200 ft and roughly 0.5 mi away from Waiohue Bay. Deep in the rainforest this beautiful waterfall beckons you to take a dip, so bring an extra set of clothes and "Reef Walker" type shoes to wade in and walk out safely. Walking up to the waterfall and small pathways brings you throughout this stop with bathrooms and sitting areas, this is a very popular location. This is the turnaround location for this tour. If there is room, we can stop for lunch that we purchase prior to arriving. A must see and do if the water quality allows. Remember, this is a subtropical rainforest and a large rainfall deep in the forest can bring a surge of muddy water at any time so we help you choose out of two locations to take a dip. Rain or shine, its great!

Ke'anae Arboretum

This stop involves walking through a subtropical rainforest and seeing everything that can grow on a small trail into the forest. Many professional photography opportunities. You also should bring shoes to get muddy as it rains often.

Paia

(Pass by)

This quaint little town you can see the turn of the century type of construction from the old plantation days. If you do stop in this town we suggest that you spend two hours on another day. World renowned for the best surfing waves just beyond it.

Haipua'ena Falls

(Pass by)

One of my favorite waterfalls if we can stop and get into them. This waterfall is restricted to seeing it from only the bridge, according to the owner of the property. This is a perfect example of an amazing waterfall with private access. There are other waterfalls on this road that have public Access.

Kaumahina State Wayside Park

You can park and have a bathroom break and an amazing view of the valley below. Favorite for photography and for huge expanse of ocean Coastline.

Wailua Valley State Wayside Park

A small staircase brings you to view the whole valley below and the valley behind you. You'll think that you're in Jurassic Park territory. It's a larger than Life view. A must stop with a little bit of parking available from the state.

Upper Waikani Falls

(Pass by)

Depending on the weather the day earlier this falls flows with amazing fresh water from the upper valleys as we passed by.

Ke‘anae Point

This amazing location is where the first Hawaiians found water on Maui. Taro fields and an 1800's church that are on display as we drive to the point where amazing pictures of waves crashing into black lava flows into the ocean. We're in good shoes while walking on the sharp rocks is advisable you can also stroll to a restroom stop and view the area.

Honomanu

Small, secluded black-pebble beach with waves for surfing & views of the surrounding green hills. This is off the road and requires an SUV. Our Lincoln navigator is perfect for this.

Halfway to Hana

This is a possible lunch stop and it's the name of the Cafe. We go past this location for about 30 minutes. Great cheeseburgers, fantastic hot dogs, pig and other sandwiches. Smoothies, Banana Bread and more, yummm

Waialohe Point

This stop is a must see for all visiting Maui. This is the first town to have water for the Hawaiians arriving on Maui.

My family and I had an amazing day traveling the Road to Hana with Summer. She was an amazing driver, we felt safe at every turn, and man are they sharp turns. I couldn’t imagine driving that road on our own. Summer was a terrific tour guide. She was full of information, brought water and juice for our group. It was an unbelievable experience! Thank you, Summer!

Our guide was so nice and very knowledgeable. We stopped at multiple locations and she told us details about the plants, animals and history about the area. We loved it.

This was absolutely a fabulous tour! Worth the time and money! Saw so many wonderful sights and turtles too. We had a fantastic tour guide who answered every question and kept us safe throughout the drive. Loved this!!!

Summer was a great tour guide. I was a bit worried about the drive and she put me completely at ease. Super comfortable car, she had water and juice ready. Loved all the stops, especially the waterfall and turtles

We were 8 people in an suv, extremely crowded. Luckily 6 of us were family so at least we were squished with people we know.

I was a bit disappointed in this trip. There was nothing in the description that said "Wear Rain gear!" We did not realize that we would be on the rainy side of the island and that the whole trip would be in the rain. Although Summer (great driver!) had umbrellas, they were not really useful with the windy rain we experienced. Also, because of the type of vehicle, the people sitting in the back could not see any of the waterfalls, etc that she pointed out. The few stops we made were OK, again, other than the rain! I actually didn't even get out of the car on a couple of them because it was pouring and then up several steps that were too difficult for me to manage in the rain. The stop at Halfway to Hana food stand was excellent! The narration was also excellent. I am glad we did the 1/2 way to Hana tour and NOT the full tour. There was also a bit of a conflict/confusion about where to meet in the morning and about who would be in which car - they had to split up a group because there needed to be 7 in each vehicle. Unfortunately, this was probably my least favorite activity from my entire trip to Hawaii.

Summer was our tour guide and driver! She was great! She said it was 615th time driving this route!! She definitely knew the roads and history well. We chose halfway to Hana and it was just long enough too!!! We had great people riding along too!! We had a windy rainy day but we all enjoyed it anyway. Saw the turtles and beautiful waterfalls and beaches!!

Summer was a great tour guide - very informative!! Was a great way to see Maui, we enjoyed all the sites we stopped off at.

The tour was well planned, got some great views and pictures- but the Lincoln Navigator presented issues with 8 people scrunched inside trying to get in and out at each of the stops. Our guide could not be heard in the back where I was sitting - fellow tourists had to relay his information to the back seat. Suggestion- 6 people in a car would be a better fit.

Trish_T

Our group of four was forced to split into two different cars, 3 and 1. Our guide, Shawn, did not even attempt to accommodate us. We stuffed 8 people into a Lincoln Navigator. Six of us were squished like sardines. Definitely not an idea seating situation for anyone over 50. The sea turtles made the tour. Without them, I’d call it the Highway to Hell because of the tour company.
