Your Itinerary

Kiel

(Pass by)

This shore excursion of Hamburg starts directly in front of the cruise terminal. Our hosts will greet you when your ship docks and show you to a modern, air-conditioned bus. The journey takes 1.5-2 hours each way. An experienced local guide will meet you upon your arrival, share insight into the local history; and take you to the most prominent places in Hamburg. This Hanse City is not only the most beautiful port city in Germany but also the richest in the country. It was badly damaged by bombings during WWII but has become the second most exciting city in Germany next to Berlin! In the 1960’s the Star Club became famous as the Beatles venue and today the legendary nightlife area is famous for its bars and red light district. During the day, the area around the old city with its picturesque canals is one of the nicest high end shopping areas in all of Germany. The two lakes in the heart of the old city, the Binnen and Aussenalster give the city a natural aquatic beauty.

Hamburg Town Hall

On our tour your will enjoy a leisurely stroll through the historic heart of Hamburg and see the stunning Town Hall while learning about the role of Hamburg in the Hanseatic league.

St Nikolai Memorial

We will also visit the St Nikolai Church, still a burnt out shell of a church and hear about the near total destruction of the city during the second world war.

Speicherstadt

Afterwards we will explore the oldest street in Hamburg, Deichstrasse and cross over the Trost bridge in the heart of the Medieval City. Close by is the Elbe River and the scenic Landungsbrucke river walk. From here we will head over to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Speicherstadt where goods coming in and out of the city were once stored and the Hafencity, the newest area of the city where the Elbphilharmonie today stands as an architectural wonder for all to see.

Hamburg

After the tour you will have 1 hour to explore the city on your own, do souvenir shopping and get a lunch. At the end of the visit, our bus will bring you back to the port, with at least 1.5 hours to spare before its departure.

Kiel

(Pass by)

At the end of the tour, our bus will bring you back to the port, with at least 1-1.5 hours to spare before your ship`s departure.

I wanted to write a positive review. I really did. On the positive side the local manager for the company putting on the tour was responsive in giving a partial refund due to the problems encountered. I organized this tour booking as an excursion when our ship stopped in Kiel and 8 others joined in. All 9 of us concurred that it was a disappointment. Some wanted a total refund but we settled for less. The tour was organized so that we were met by a driver who spoke no English and stayed in the parked van rather than waiting at the terminal with a sign as we were told. Once we found him we were off to Hamburg on time. The driver was not good and we were an hour late meeting our guide. After a potty stop we had a walking tour for 1.5 hours in downtown Hamburg and walked to the warehouse area where we waited 20 minutes for the van. It took us by the red light district and dropped us at the harbor for a one hour snack break. THAT WAS THE END of the tour! The guide said she was hired for 3 hours and that time was up. The van then made the 1.5 hour trip back to the ship.

This was OK. I got to see lots of parts of Hamburg from the bus and hardly do any walking. In addition, the windows weren't clean (on the inside), so many of my photos are distorted. For a 6 hour tour to only have 3 stops and a total of 2 hours OFF the bus, I don't think I can recommend it. In addition, since I had Google, I was fact checking our guides' (Evelan?) claims.....90% of what he told us were lies or at least puffery. Hamburg doesn't have the biggest, best, largest in the world of anything EXCEPT the most bridges.

The guide made our trip, but outside this, it was a disaster. Viator, you would have known for a long time that a triathlon was running the day/weekend this tour was booked. We could not access several places to see, and after 2.5 hours on the bus, we were illegally dropped off with our guide, (at a red light) to finally go on foot somewhere. A lot of walking took place and I felt for some of the very senior people in our group. It was not a walking tour. Make no mistake, our guide was fabulous! But this tour should have not been offered during a triathlon weekend.

Very disappointed in this tour. We booked a 4 hour tour as my confirmation said with no time for lunch. Both the tour operator and bus driver said they were only scheduled for 2 hours and then were suppose to drop us off in old town to shop and have lunch? They said they were given this tour months ago. They were both professional and nice but we didn't get what we were confirmed! I want my money back!

Roughly passed many areas I was interested in stopping by and take some quick photos, we can barely see the view from the bus. Was bit disappointed but it’s understandable since our guide said the schedule was too tight to make stops. However, the guide dropped us off at a shopping area and said “you are free, you have 45 min” and left. We feel very disappointed since we could use the time to make very quick stops. I wouldn’t recommend this tour to others.

The few times we got out of the bus were nice, but overall it was so boring I fell asleep. One group was escorted into a museum for about 10 minutes while the rest of us were left waiting for them.

We had a very enjoyable day. We were picked up at the port just outside the gates. Guide was on time and well - prepared. I was impressed that the guide brought a picture file to show historical changes, he also brought local bakery products to share a Hamburg favorite treat as well as a popular local candy. His historical knowledge was impressive. The driver dropped us off at a variety to spots that the guide wished to include in his walking tour. This was a ful day tour and the time just vanished. Definitely a good choice for history buffs or travellers who like to walk and listen.

Driver and guide were very nice. We saw a variety of buildings around Hamburg. Would have been nice to walk around the Reeperbahn or all the way through the underground tunnel rather than just see the entrance.
