David's music tour is excellent! He not only weaves music information but adds local history as well. The music information is historical and current too. The tour moved at an easy pace. David allows for questions and discussions. A great way to see Downtown Asheville!

If you want a tour of the Asheville music scene you can't go wrong here. David Penley is so knowledgeable from his years of experience in the music and stereo industry. He brings that knowledge and love to Asheville and he has dug deep into the local music history to find all the nuggets of the local artists that originated or called Asheville their home over the years.

We took the day walking tour of Asheville Music History with David. It was spectacular. Very in-depth, and David is really knowledgeable. You see all the key venues, understand the history, and it ends at the Moog Museum, which chronicles the creation of the devices that made modern pop music possible.

Our guide, David, can’t be beat. Very amiable, knowledgeable and a great storyteller. We learned so much! One of the favorite parts of our trip. FYI: you don’t have to be passionate about music to enjoy David’s tour. My husband loves music; I like music. We both equally enjoyed the tour.

Our Guide, David, provided interesting stories which were well told. He is a longtime local who clearly loves the material and his enthusiasm is contagious. He also shared good insights into local restaurants and music venues. We had a good experience and you will too !

Fun and informative tour - I learned about Asheville's diverse music history being due to so many travelers, visitors, mountain folk, and a number of recording studios over the last 100 years - drawing musicians here to play and/or record an album or single. You'll learn about musicians who left here to make it big, you'll learn about musicians who return here to settle down. I would go again.

Fascinating tour--our guide David clearly loves (and knows) Asheville and its musical history, and he peppered his overview with all kinds of entertaining details and anecdotes about everyone from Pete Seeger to Asheville native guitar hero Warren Haynes. The stop at Citizen Vinyl took us right into view of an actual vinyl pressing in process. I particularly loved the stories about the Orange Peel's soul shows in the 1960s (Otis Redding!). And the Moogseum was a perfect endpoint destination. Highly recommended--just bring water if the weather is really hot and humid, because the tour lasts a good while (all outdoors after the Citizen Vinyl stop).

David is a superb tour guide, who manages to add personal experiences to so many behind the scene stories. Who knew so so many music greats were either from here or had some connection with AVL? So many genres are well represented that you don't have to be only a fan of Bluegrass to appreciate this tour. Added bonus is David's knowledge of the local venues and who is playing where. Do this on your 1st day and enjoy local music throughout your visit!

Interesting and in depth stories about the people who were the foundation of the music business and the historic places where events happened. Brings to life the streets of Asheville. Some of the highlights is seeing vinyl records being pressed and the Moogseum. Highly recommended. David is a native of Asheville and really knows his city.

Exercise and adventure! Very informative. Our guide David shared stories that tied historical events to current day outcomes highlighting the importance of the Asheville music scene to the character of the city and the impact that it has had locally and nationally. Additional information on architecture and locales rounded out the presentation. To round out the afternoon we went to Cultivated Cocktails in the heart of town and recapped the day. Absolutely wonderful experience; Would do it again!
