Beautiful grounds and tour guide was great! They also have a authentic Gauguin casually sitting in the antique dining room!

The tour guide was knowledgeable and answered questions easily, non scripted. The information was interesting, the stories were great, the gardens amazing, and the house artifacts were lovely.

Our visit to Houmas House was wonderful. Such a beautiful plantation and gorgeous grounds. We had a very fun and informative guide and her name was Susanna. Hopefully you'll get her as she clearly loves what she does and has lots of stories to share. We learned so much in a short amount of time. She's a gem! PS: eat at the Carriage House restaurant...beautiful inside and tasty food too.

Traditional plantation house with full guided tour. Great to hear about the evolved design of the house and the activities of its owners. Landscaped grounds are lovely to walk through. We understand that this house had a good relationship with its slaves and gifted them land when the regime came to an end, therefore there isn't so much on the history of slavery it's very much about the house. Allow a couple of hours to visit. There is also a cafe. At the time of our visit it closed at 2pm, had assumed it might be open later and this is the only food outlet so keep the timings in mind. Note the Great River Road museum is not included in the main house ticket price, we decided not to pay the extra.

Beautiful location. We enjoyed the informative tour and had a wonderful dinner at The Carriage House. My favorite part was the beautiful gardens. Absolutely amazing and spectacular in the evening.

Guide Ruby was exceptional and while mansion was somewhat eclectic, seemed to be authentic. Being able to view real artifacts from the period was special!

We visited the Houmas House with the entire extended family. The grounds and gardens are very nice (with many eccentric and some creepy pieces of art). We did a Houmas House tour, which was fine but completely dismissive of the entire slave history of this place. When the group asked questions about slavery the guide said that they are not allowed to talk about it. What?! I know the website does not mention anything about slavery (let’s conveniently ignore the subject matter and pretend this never happened; rich Barons and their posh possessions are much more fun) but not even to mention all those hundreds of people on whose sweat and blood this place flourished while these Barons lived in luxury, is very disrespectful in my view. So, after finishing the tour with much of it focused on who seems to be a self-centered owner and his dogs and nothing on the true and meaningful history of this place, I left with a “something is not right” feeling. PS saw the owner’s responses on this matter raised by other reviewers aka if you want to learn about slaves go visit other places. Indeed, why would I go to the largest slave holding plantation to learn about slaves…? You own and live on the land that is drenched in human suffering that lasted for decades so come to terms with it!

Beautiful house and grounds with fascinating history. Our tour guide, Dennis, was very entertaining. He has a rhythm in his speech, a way of elongating certain words for emphasis, which made the experience very enjoyable.

The entire plantation was beautiful and our tour guide was so informative. The history of the property is amazing and all the improvements from the newest owner is great to see. My teens enjoyed it and eating at the Dixie Cafe was a delicious.

We had a great burger in the cafe then took the tour with Darren as our guide. He was excellent. Very interesting house with many unusual things to see. The gardens were also beautiful! The museum was really good too.
