Isola di Murano

The enchanting islands of Murano and Burano are the perfect change of pace from Venice’s crowded streets and waterways. And the perfect way to reach them is by private water taxi. Faster and sturdier than a gondola, nimbler and less crowded than a waterbus, water taxis are the premier way to travel in Venice. Few visitors get to experience them, but yours is included, along with an expert local guide who’ll explain Venice’s history as a titan of trade along the way. Your first port of call is a specially chosen glassblowing workshop on Murano. In the Middle Ages, only Murano’s artisans possessed the secrets of this craft, and sharing them was punishable by execution. You’ll get to witness modern glassblowers wield those once secret techniques, shaping delicate and dazzling works of art from molten glass. Then admire the workshop’s finest work in its gallery, and perhaps take home a piece of your own – with a tour discount. Or explore more of Murano, including its peaceful canals and stunning Byzantine church.

Admission Included

Burano

The locals of nearby Burano still maintain the island’s tradition of handmade lace, some of the finest anywhere in the world. You’ll get to observe lace being hand-stitched the way it has been for generations. Then visit the lace museum to see the island’s greatest work, or simply enjoy the photo opportunity provided by the colorful houses, brightly painted so sailors could see home as they returned from the sea. When you cross the lagoon back to Venice, you’ll have a renewed appreciation of the crafts that put the city on the map so long ago.

Meeting place and guide was easy to find. Our guide Anna was very friendly and helpful. She answered individual questions patiently, and on the boat ride back and forth, she told us much about the islands of Venice. The Murano glass blowing was amazing and everyone at the place we visited was kind and helpful. The staff at the gallery and gift shop was helpful, listening and making suggestions but not pushy. Burano was colorful and the history of the lacemaking gave us an appreciation of the intricacy it took to create. We shopped on the square, had coffee and biscuits and enjoyed it, rainy weather and all. At the end, our guide Anna helped with directions and we were. Rey happy with her.

I can't figure out why this tour received so many positive reviews. The boat ride was terrible. My husband almost wiped out trying to get down the stairs. The glass tour was maybe 10 minutes and the lace "tour" 2 minutes. It consisted off a women sitting in a chair showing us a piece of lace. That was the extent of the "tour" -- 2 minutes max. The tour was 90% marketing for sure. It seemed like a big sales pitch. The boat was so loud that it was almost impossible to hear the guide. While I appreciate the art of making, 300 euros for a hanky is not affordable for most people. When we got to the islands, the guide didn't give us any information other than to take us to the stores. So disappointing. We certainly didn't experience what everyone else is raving about.

Loved watching the glass making process in Murano. Wished we were able to view all the techniques such as glass blowing. Burano was beautiful.. all the colorful houses are must see. Elly was an amazing tour guide, who was very knowledgeable and answered all questions. Must do while in Venice.

Our tour guide Francesco Gin was fabulous! She was so informative and taught us so much about Cenice and its islands including Burano and Murano. She is a very proud Venice native! Loved the day!

We enjoyed the spacious boat, the trip was good for a brief visit to Murano, there wasn’t much of a glass demonstration or much time to look around the island, it gave you a brief chance to see if you’d want to come back. Burano was beautiful again a bit rushed though . Our guide Eva was very pleasant and knowledgeable and we enjoyed the water ride back to Venice and the information she gave us.

Fabulous day, I expected Murano to be the best place but how wrong was I ! Burano is absolutely beautiful I was just a bit upset we did not get to spend enough time there on this trip. Only had 1 hour to have a look around and to get something to eat / drink. You really need half a day to be able to look around at all the shops and have a drink / meal. There is a vineyard we didn’t get to go to either, I would have loved to see that . Oh well we will have to visit again.

This was a fun time! We boarded a very comfortable for the trip to Murano. Beautiful scenery. After the glass blowing demonstration, which was very cool, we had time to browse shop and make purchases if we wanted. Also a short breat to stroll into Moreno. We boarded the boat to head to Burano which took little time. Visited a lace shop there and got to watch a woman working on the lace and hear about the intricate process. There is a lace museum upstairs in the shop. Then more free time to eat and shop. Burano is beautiful with its colorful houses and shops. Elly was our guide and she was great! Very knowledgeable and just fun! She took great care of us and gave us great tips on restaurants in Burano where we had free time to shop and eat.

The boat ride over to the two island was very relaxing. Amazing to see how the Murano glass factory works and make their beautiful glass ornate gifts. One of a kind!
