We took this tour at the very end of August. Only a few of us had any kayak experience but the newbies had no problem getting the hang of it. The operators/guides gave very helpful instruction before we went out and also as we were making our way along the lakeshore. I always think the hardest part is getting in and out of the kayak but no worries here. You do that on the sandy shore and they just push and pull your boat in/out. I love that the group was small (about 6 kayaks) so we had plenty of time to ask questions and hear the stories along the way as we kayaked together. They set the pace very leisurely for the slowest group to feel comfortable (there was another guide there that could take those who wanted to paddle fast). I also liked that they provided the dry jackets for us! Definitely helped keep up warm and dry in the early morning chill. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made sure each kayak was able to get a close up view of the thermal features that we passed along the way. They allowed us to stop if we wanted to when we turned to head back and they provided each of us with water and energy bars. It was obvious that they enjoy what they do and want to encourage everyone to respect and be responsible for the beauty of the parks.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and keep the tour interesting and relaxing. It was cold and foggy we we started the tour but the dry shirts that were provided the needed warmth. After the fog burned off the sun came out and our trip had perfect weather.

Gorgeous views at the lake shore. as you get closer to the West Thumb area, you get to see very cool geothermal areas on the water. Our guide was an awesome informer of all things Yellowstone and nature. Can’t wait to hear his podcast. Thanks Jeremy! Kayaks were very good and easy to use but we have quite a bit of experience. Regardless, I think you would make it with little experience because they are so great at helping and advising Great for birdwatchers too. Our guide was it very good identifier, and we had seven on the trip. He was obviously a big bird watcher.

It was fun to get out on the water, away from crowds, and learn a bit about the area. It got a bit windy coming back, so be mindful you do have to paddle & aware of your physical capabilities.

What a special Way to see Yellowstone. It was cool to be able to feel the water temperature get hotter as you got closer to the thermal pools. We had a choice of single of tandem kayaks- perfect for a group our size (about 132). overall the group had a great time.

My group had 2 guides. Dan and Jeremy were very friendly and it was nice that they each went at 2 different speeds for those who liked to keep up a good pace and those who preferred to take it easy. I was with Dan, the fast group, so we managed to make it a little further down the shoreline than the others before we had to turn around- and caught a rare geyser eruption in the process! I’m in the park all the time, but it was nice to get on the lake for a change and get to see it from a new perspective. Dan was friendly and relaxed, but was also very attentive to the weather to ensure we wouldn’t get caught up in any risky situations as some dark clouds started to roll in. So if anyone has any anxieties about the activity, you will very quickly feel at ease. These guides are patient, courteous, and informative.

Not only was the trip memorable and great... the behind the scenes staff were awesome. I was a bit worried about my preparedness and the cold, but was talked through options and eventually had an amazing time. Joe was a great tour guide, telling us lots of info about the area and the geysers. Highly recommend this outfit. You will not be disappointed.
