Your Itinerary

Stresa

we will meet in Piazzale Lido Stresa at 9.30

Isola Bella

During the day we will visit the Baroque palace on Isola Bella and the luxuriant Italian-style garden, which reaches a height of 37 metres and is laid out on ten terraces.

Admission Not Included

Island of the Fishermen (Isola dei Pescatori)

Then we will visit the Isola Pescatori (Fishermen’s Island), or Upper Island because of its more northerly situation than the other islands in the Gulf, is the most picturesque of the Borromean Islands, as well as the only one to be permanently inhabited. Distinctive features of its ancient little village are narrow lanes with characteristic two-storey houses, with long balconies traditionally used for drying fish; the island’s inhabitants earn their living mainly by fishing and tourism. I can suggest you a nice place for lunch to taste the lake fish.

Admission Included

Isola Madre

Finally we will visit the Isola Madre: it is the largest and perhaps most characteristic of the three islands in the Borromean Gulf. Its palace was built in the 16th century and the garden is a paradise with tropical flowers, where peacocks and pheasants wander in freedom.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Borromean Islands. Our local tour guide, Giulia Ferrari, was extremely knowledgeable about both the history of the islands and the plants in the gardens of both Isola Madre and Isola Bella. Though we didn’t have a reservation at the restaurant we chose for lunch at Isola dei Pescatori, she spoke up on our behalf and got us a table right over the lake. It was a very pleasant day and I don’t think we would have enjoyed it as much if we had just ventured to the islands on our own.

My husband and I took a tour today with Giulia. We highly recommend her!! She was prompt, professional, able to communicate easily in English, pleasant to be with and very knowledgable and able to answer our questions.

The visit was fantastic as we also bought tickets for the Palaces and a gardens. The boat trips were fun and the skippers gave guidance in Italian and English. Although I would not class this as a private tour guide it was sufficient for us. It was a shame that the agents at the ticket office were not interested in helping us and kept pointing us to their colleagues. They were only interested in new sales, not pre booked tickets. This should be resolved with the ticket office.

My husband and I spent the day touring three Borromean Islands. Our private guide, Guilia Ferrante, brought them to life for us. She was incredibly knowledgeable about everything from plants, to architecture, and history. It was a wonderful day and added significantly to our enjoyment of Stresa and Lake Maggiore.

The tour was a bit perfunctory. I would expect a bit more for the cost of the guide plus boat transfer costs and entry fee for the two islands on top of that.

We really enjoyed our tour. It was great. We were in Stresa so the boat ride was very short. I would have liked to see more of the lake

Gulia Ferrari was fantastic. She met us at our hotel and arranged for a private boat to bring us to each of the islands. Due to the heat, and the private transportation, we could adapt our tour accordingly. Gulia is very knowledgeable regarding the history, the plants and stories about each location. She was very good at "reading" the group, to know the pace and interests. She wasn't one of those guides who needs to fill every second with talking. We had time to just quietly enjoy the spectacular surroundings. Highly recommend Gulia.

My wife and I were visiting Lake Maggiore for the first time and, at our travel agent's recommendation, we took an all day tour of the three principal Borromean Islands, Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Madre. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and made us feel very comfortable throughout the day. She had already arranged the private boat which took us to each of the islands and the timing for the entire day was like clockwork, without much idle time. We had plenty of time for lunch (there are dozens of restaurant options on Isola dei Pescatori) and for shopping without any of the "what are we sitting here waiting around for?" moments. Isola Bella and Isola Madre each has a beautiful palace to visit, with artwork, interior design, architecture and fabulous gardens to explore and admire. In contrast, Isola dei Pescatori provides a glimpse of the simple life of the ordinary fishermen who inhabited it and gave it its name. We recommend this tour for anyone who hasn't already visited the Borromean Islands.

L'Île madre est la plus belle, je recommande. Le soir c'est Saint Tropez en Italie. Place avec des restaurants très sympas. Très bonne ambiance.
